CELEBRATE DIVERSITY
What explains leftoid hysteria over Fox News, currently celebrating its tenth year? Brian C. Anderson has a theory:
Success, of course.
Monopolists just hate it when competition arrives. What, you mean there’s another viewpoint, and it’s different from ours? Noooooooooooooooooooo!
Posted by Spectre765 on 2006 10 07 at 12:43 PM • permalinkSame as their reaction to Rush Limbaugh. Except that in that case they both hate his success and the fact that he got it by being entertaining instead of having the “gravitas” they think ought to be part of every political discussion.
Heck, being libertarian, I don’t agree with at least a third of what Limbaugh goes on about. But I still love seeing the effect he has on lefties.

Of course. And to build on Spectre765’s point, lefties really hate it when someone busts their bubble, and lets reality in.
Posted by The_Real_JeffS on 2006 10 07 at 01:07 PM • permalinkThe idea of success is capitalistic and wrong!
Seriously though
Fox got me onto the internet - one day I was watching Bill O’Reilly who had Michelle Malkin on who spoke of her blog which then linked to LGF which then linked to Tim Blair
So I then gave up housework, all motherly duties and sleep to be a good poster and lurker

awesome news, i hope this is true, please please please:

no, not to do any of those things, but just piss and moan…lol.
Yes unfortunately this seems to be a purely man thing
Pissing and moaning that is
Us womenfolk just get on with it
Work our fingers to the bone to bring home the bacon, raise kidlets, put up with the above, post and lurk - it’s a hard job
And of course read “Womans Day” and “Who Weekly” to see who Paris is bonking this week and how many African babies Angelina Jolie has given birth to and adopted
And watch Lateline and Media Watch - thankfully I have my Prozac

The Man of the House (MOTH) also likes cooking and does most of it (as I work late)
But I read the cook books and choose recipes
But he still whinges and moans as he must do being a bloke - if he didn’t I would immediately book him into seeing a doc to see what wrong

Posted by andycanuck on 2006 10 07 at 02:48 PM • permalinkC’mon people. Diversity consists of liberalism, leftism and communism. There is no other acceptable point of view. So the media should consist of Pravda, Izvestya and Granma. What else does the thinking man need?
And yes I vacuum and do dishes, (cuz some guys will do anything for sex!)
Posted by Vanguard of the Commentariat on 2006 10 07 at 03:25 PM • permalinkIf you want to see how deranged the left gets over Fox News have a look at the comments on this article from the Guardian blog:
-It’s not news, it is propaganda bought to you by ‘the lobby’ and the son of satan - mr murdoch.
-Fox News is not about providing balanced, responsible journalism, it is about making loads of zlotys from the Neanderthal classes, pandering to their uneducated prejudices and knee jerk lobotomised reactions.
-Fox has driven Europe and the US apart and might cause the the third world war.
-Why would intelligent adults keep an eye on the detestable Fox? Because those of us who embrace the Enlightenment have to keep tabs on you god-bothering freaks who are doing a spectacular job of buggering up our world.
-Fox is financed by a neo-fascist, so there’s the balance you seek… the Murdochracy, like the Holocaust Deniers, have their rabid defenders everywhere, it would seem…
“What explains leftoid hysteria over Fox News, currently celebrating its tenth year?”
Because Fox are shameless partisan liars?
If we are to celebrate diversity, then we must CELEBRATE DIVERSITY!!!!

Posted by The_Real_JeffS on 2006 10 07 at 06:32 PM • permalinkaussiemagpie & Vanguard - I have a study group for women I know at my house on Saturdays, 1130-1pm. While I’m getting munchies or doing laundry, My Chief dusts, sweeps & mops, & does a good job of tidying up. I wash up the dishes & clean the bathroom.
Like Rebecca, I don’t watch tv news unless there’s something “happening” but when I do, I only watch FoxNews. They seem to be less depressed that the others!
I seem to remember an interview with some of the wheels at FOX news. One statement (words to effect, et all) struck me as brilliant:
We thought there might be a market for a station that didn’t bash America in every breath.
I don’t find FOX particularly right wing - just not actively anti-American, marxist, or downright moonbatty as the other stations.
Auntie, can’t resist, but since you set me up: I was in the Navy for 22 years and I could never get my Chief to do a goddam thing! You must be a helluva leader!
[/sarc] In reality, I was blessed with the best Chief Petty Officers anyone could ask for! Hold on to yours, they are like gold.

Care to back that up with facts, not your whiny, leftist horse shit?
Suggestion, stick to reading Pravda, if they still print…means ‘The Truth’ you know…and everything they use to print, you and your ilk believed as truth. You obviously still do.
Funny how they never mentioned all those nice commie leaders burying millions and millions and millions and millions. Strange, Walter Duranty of the NYT had a real bad habit of defending the brutality of those totalitarians…and he won a ‘prize’ for his collaborative efforts.
Bet you would have died to meet Josef…literally.
“We thought there might be a market for a station that didn’t bash America in every breath.”
I’m still not exactly clear what it is that turns garden-variety fools like MrLefty into spluttering cretans whenever FOX News comes up…the mere fact that they demonstrate there’s a way to present the news without constant America-bashing (that must be so upsetting to your carefully crafted world view, Wally), or that there’s indeed a sizeable audience for that kind of programming (those stupid plebs just don’t know what’s good for them, do they).
Probably a bit of both.
#19 - quite right, Mr. Lefty. Look at this list of Fox incompetencies and lies:
1) Inventing a eight-year-old heroin addict.
2) Taping explosives to a truck gas tank.
3) Filing stories “from the field” when the reporter was really at the bar around the corner
4) Passing off as an official document a forgery so crude and obvious that it took all of 30 minutes to be debunked.
5) Writing a snide review of the speeches at the Republican National Convention weeks before the convention began.Oops, not Fox - that’s CNN, Washington Post, NBC, New York Times, CBS, Harper’s… yep, those right-wing news organizations sure are a bunch of sloppy liars.
Oh, and as Ross pointed out, the EXACT SAME MISTAKE at the rabid right-wingnut ABC.
I guess you’ve got Fox’s number, you slyboots, you.
People like to have their ideas and prejudices re-inforced. People are very good at hearing what they want to hear and disregarding what they don’t want to hear. Fox and the Guardian are both still in business because they are talking to two different groups in a language that they like - that language being the slant they put on stories, or the stories they decide to report, or the commentary that they decide to publish. Fox is succesful because it found a group - a large group - that didn’t like what they were hearing.
What I find frightening is that the Guardian types think that they are “mainstream” and that all alternative forms of thought or expression should be closed down - the word “heresy” springs to mind. So what if Fox is part of some vast “right wing conspiracy”? If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. No one twists my arm to buy the Guardian - which I never would. You’d probably have to twist my arm to get me to wipe my bum with it. The Guardian and its ilk - the ABC, BBC, Fairfax, the Universities - could also be classed as part of of a vast left wing conspiracy. So what? The important thing about a War of Ideas is not necessarily who wins or loses, but the fact that you can have a War of Ideas at all. Two or more sides constantly battling it out forever. What we don’t want is an end to the War of Ideas, because that sounds suspiciously like something Josef Stalin or Castro or Kim il-jung would like.
So take your complaints about Fox and shove it. The War goes on.

Good thing he didn’t back into any Banyan trees.
