ERWIN KREMER
Porsche modifier Erwin Kremer died last month. His bizarre (yet race-winning and terrifyingly quick) vehicles live on:

Note the “running boards” on this early ‘80s Kremer-tweaked 935; they’re actually rudimentary ground-effect inverted wings.
UPDATE. Sheridan J. emails:
Since I learned of the passing of Erwin Kremer via your blog, I hope you don’t mind me sending you this pic snapped in Herr Kremer’s shop:

The above shows Sheridan’s husband Dave in 2005 at the Kremer workshop aboard a Kremer Le Mans racer. Further from Sheridan:
I am marveling at how small the world has become. Here I sit on Bainbridge Island, WA USA, having learned of the passing of a memorable man my husband met in Germany from the blog of an Aussie race fan. Stunning.
UPDATE II. Reader Shaun emails: “Just in case you would like to do a sightseeing trip across Stockholm in a Kremer ...”
I think you’re right.
Maybe hizonner was thinking of this car, the Chaparral 2J “vacuum cleaner”.

Was it the Detroit Grand Prix where a city councilman asked race promoters whether the ground-effects cars might suck manhole covers up and send them clanging into the crowds?
