FAVOURITES PLAYED
On the Ten Network this morning, author and outer Chris Masters continued attempting to justify his exposure of Alan Jones’ homosexuality:
I don’t really think it informs his decisions. It’s more to do with patterns of behaviour, his tendency to play favourites.
This curious notion—that favouritism is some kind of gay indicator—is raised frequently by Masters. In his book:
There are also examples in his teaching, coaching and broadcasting of personal attitudes influencing public behaviour - for example, his lifelong habit of playing favourites.
On television:
He has this constant habit of playing favourites, which you see right through his very many careers.
And on radio:
I mean, there had to be reasons why there ended up being dysfunction, and it was a lot to do with his constant habit of playing favourites.
It’s something of a breakthrough, this discovery that a favouritism gene is associated with homosexuality. Masters has obviously conducted more research in this field than was first evident; or perhaps he simply observed David Marr hosting Media Watch and noticed a gay favourite-playing pattern.
And all this time we thought they played show tunes. Another quote from Masters on Ten (no link available):
How can you out somebody who appears to be out anyway?
Masters immediately followed this with: “The first question people always ask me is always about his sexuality”. Which would seem to undercut the claim that Jones was “out”; if he was, why would people ask? Besides which, there are degrees of “out”. While many people know (and don’t much care) that Jones is gay, Masters takes this to the level of it (among other things) influencing his behaviour with children. One more line from Masters, who may be realising that he, not Jones, is becoming the story here:
There’s no question, Jones deserves his success.
How conciliatory of him. Further on this from Andrew Bolt.
Underlying the hatred of Jones is a simple and traditional Aussie trait: the desire to cut down to size, a successful tall poppy. Many journos are jealous of his intelligence, his professionalism and the clarity, research and erudition underlying his arguments. They envy his influence that comes as a result. They resent that he is able to attract the big hitters onto his program, which of course helps boost his listener numbers.
I don’t agree with a lot of his opinions, but for a broadcaster, they are logically argued and persuasively expressed. Contrast this with the lightweight pap on 2UE from Carlton (there’s a murky past that might bear investigating) and the braindead Fitzsimons; or the tired lefty trash from Trioli on ABC702. In a world of second-raters, it’s not difficult to be top dog.
This may have been asked before, but just in case, I’ll ask it here.
Is it now, the official lefty position, part of their Party Approved Rhetoric (PAR), that queers can’t be trusted?
That Masters critter does seem to heavily imply that it is because Jones is gay that he can not be trusted.
So, now I’m wondering. Is this why the left has spent so much time and effort into pushing the queers into a tighter and tighter camp who’s followers must comply with set and specific behaviors and beliefs?
When listening to lefty’s positions on queers, it’s starting to sound more like a pogrom designed to force them into “psychic ghettos”.
If we can’t trust gays, then there’s a helluva lot of theatre and movie critics about to get the arse.

It may not be the book itself that does the damage to Masters and Carlton, Marr etc. It may be their constant gabbing and off the cuff remarks. I would say Masters is particularly susceptible to legal action from the comments he’s made to a pliable and receptive ABC and Fairfax commentariat whilst shamelessly flogging his book.
Every word, every nuance, every innuendo every chatty, unguarded inference will be pathologically examined.
I would say Masters has had it frankly. He just doesn’t know it yet.
I love this though:
The ABC, which commissioned the book but controversially refused to publish it, was selling copies at the bookshop in its Ultimo headquarters.
“The ABC decided not to publish Jonestown for reasons well documented. However, this doesn’t preclude the ABC from selling the book through our retail outlets once published,” a spokeswoman said.
there had to be reasons why there ended up being dysfunction, and it was a lot to do with his constant habit of playing favourites
Come again? Now Jones is dysfunctional because Masters needs this allegation to prop up another allegation. A classic case of the logical fallacy known as ‘begging the question’.
#5 - Those of them who haven’t been already getting it, at any rate.

I suspect that more than a couple would be on both lists.

Yes, he’ll make lots of money. And yes, he’ll get the widespread fame he believes he’s always deserved (and deserved - in his eyes - much more than Jones). Which is what this is really about. But he’s going to lose lots more besides, and I reckon by the end of next week we’re going to a very different sort of Chris Masters.
It all reminds me very much of the NOW and various feminists in the US coming out and supporting Clinton against Flowers and Lewinski.

Spot on. I remember Carlton when he was married to a woman called Kerry. In those humble days he lived in the decidedly un-hip suburb of Davidson. He then went to England for a couple of years and failed miserably (he tried to do a Jonathan Coleman). He came home with a fake John Cleese Pommy accent. But he kept his old Reagan era gags and dopey accents. He’s been regurgiytating the same crappy material for over twenty years. I think it’s because the guy is so overcome with loathing for Jones he can hardly think straight. His current missus is a producer at the ABC and was exec. producer of Chris Masters’s Four Corners expose called, yep, you guessed it, Jonestwon. Mrs Carlton all cozy with the producer/author of her husband’s most diabolical enemy. Hmmm… Carlton hates Jones with a quite obsessive passion for a zillion reasons but especially his politics and the fact that Jones outrates Carlton’s cretinous brekky show, two-to-one. That’s right. Jones has twice his ratings.
You betcha there’s a juicy story to Carlton. Maybe we can get a dirtbag good at sliming people to write it. Any suggestions?
Bonmot - didn’t someone say Chris Masters has a two-book deal?
Sliming this way and that. What could be fairer.Posted by SwinishCapitalist on 2006 10 25 at 04:27 AM • permalinkThe Jonestown reference is telling. Lefties truly believe that the great unwashed right wingers out there sit next to their radios every morning waiting to have their opinions handed down from on high to them by Jones. The more obvious explanation that people listen to Jones because they tend to agree with him on most issues seems to escape them. Its also hypocritical considering how many of them were quoting Mike Moore’s “facts” from his documentaries and falling for his childish conspiracy theories.
I (like seemingly many on this forum) don’t agree with Jones too much. He’s always struck me as a simple populist . But he is exceptionally professional and, unlike most other right wing shock jocks, is very eloquent and erudite. And who cares if he’s gay for gods sake!
#18 Swinish - mate, I reckon that 2 book deal could unravel any minute. If Allan & Unwin even get a sniff of a Jones lawyer from a mile away, they’ll be talking to THEIR lawyers how to get out of the Masters deal. Masters could turn out to be a very expensive proposition. Especially to Masters. More of those those ‘unintended consquences’. Own-goal comes to mind.
#18 - In the 2nd book Masters, Marr and Jones put there differences a side, buy a big silver bus and go on tour of the outback entertaining wide eyed locals with tales of Sin City. The tour is cancelled when it’s discovered no one gives a fat rat’s ring gear about any of this tawdry shit. Masters and Marr fade back into obscurity editing the ABC staff canteen menu. Jones resumes his radio career and the rest of us are over awed with ambivalence.
Posted by Infidel Tiger on 2006 10 25 at 05:03 AM • permalinkWho are these people that, upon hearing Masters is writing a book about a guy who has political influence reaching up to and including the Prime Minister, immediately ask about that same man in a foreign toilet?
This can’t be a normal reaction, can it?
Posted by Villeurbanne on 2006 10 25 at 06:21 AM • permalinkMasters and Marr, the M&M of the lefty media hacks, have singled out Jonesy as a target because they can’t counter his political message and his success.
They have actually lost the debate and thus resort to messenger-shooting to eliminate their cognitive dissonance - a standard collectivist solution.
As for homosexuality - it’s best described as a species level biological feedback mechanism to limit species population numbers - since lab data shows that male homosexuals have predominantly a female thalamus, an organic variation caused in the first trimester of pregancy. All together a rather prosaic explanation.
Clearly M&M are perplexed that the political right (whatever that means) could not give a rats fizz over Jonesy’s sexual orientation, and have therefore decided to vilify him in the manner they assume the right should have done.
#22 - Intriguing concept, I’d especially enjoy the hissy fits re ‘It’s my turn with the pink feather boa tonight, you bitch!’

Good point Jimbo. I was amazed at the time that the same people who had people fired for ‘ogling’ went dead silent when Bill popped his cork on the little blue dress. On the news tonight, Jones was shown attending the premiere of the new ‘Dirty Dancing’ musical in London. This doesn’t strike me as normal behaviour for someone who’s supposedly in the closet…

Only one way to treat a bully Allen. Hit em where it hurts. Or in the words of Eric Cartman “kick em in the nuts”.

I’m a bit ‘Jonesed out’ at the moment (which in hindsight is not an apt use of words). However, the very first excerpts the Herald published were the gay ‘bits’. If there wasn’t malice aforethought, why not publish the allegations about Jones as a manipulator of politicians first, surely that must be a bigger deal?
As for Marr what a douchebag, the sanctimonious, whiny, shrill, fucktard who has no honour but uses an issue as a means of furthering his own bitter political feelings. His degree of volume over illegal immigrants and the treatment of Islamists can be contrasted with his silence on certain realities.
