    Selection Criteria:
1.Experience and demonstrated ability in journalism.
2.Experience in broadcast journalism, and specifically television, would be an advantage but is not essential.

  7. WAY off topic here, but if this amnesty cr*p gets passed here in the US - can I, may I please move to Australia?  From what Ive read of John Howard and events in Oz in the past, there will at least be a resounding rejection of the phrase “doing the job [Australians] won’t do.”

I dont know my own country anymore…and I havent been alive that long…

*sorry for the depressed post - but becoming an immigrant myself is looking mighty appealing…

  8. #7,

    What amnesty crap, Fergie?

    Do you have any links?

  9. Pogria - here’s one article that basically sums it up.  People here are infuriated.

Washington Times - Illegal immigration deal alienates everyone

  10. Thanks for the link Fergie.
I don’t know what to say. Not living in your country, I have no idea of what it is actually like.

The main problem we have here with illegals, is not that they want to be a part of our country, they want to come here, make use of our welfare system and bring all the problems and prejudices they have in their country of origin with them.

The most infuriating part for us, here in Oz, is that they are entitled to unlimited legal aid, where the average working aussie can’t even get a free phone call.

    Your welcome here anytime.
    Cheers.

  11. Thank you Pogria :D - sounds like y’all have the same problem we’re having…this bill will just simply make it a free for all - whats worse is that it is being spurred on by Marxist groups like La Raza who have revised history to their purposes (“Texas was stolen blah blah blah”)

    my best to you!

  12. “Mr Hicks said his commitment to speaking out on the threat to human rights in relation to the experience of his son, a Taliban fighter and Muslim convert who was imprisoned as part of the US so-called war on terror, was not altered by David’s expected return after almost 5½years at Guantanamo Bay.

Mr Hicks said he was still concerned about freedom of speech in Australia and the ability of the police to detain terrorism suspects as well as the legal and physical conditions in which David was held for so long at Guantanamo Bay.”

Does Tezza really believe he’s being silenced? You can’t shut this prick up.

  13. #11, at least most of the mexicans want to work, which is not always the case in OZ, which has a much more ‘sympathetic’ welfare system than the US.
My 2 cents, the problem could also be reduced if there was not so much use of low paid illegal immigrants in the agriculture/domestic services workforce.

  14. From the SMH:

(protestor: “David Hicks is a political prisoner and it is just a complete human rights violation that our government can completely neglect one of its own citizens and leave him to rot in Guantanamo Bay”

How the hell has he been left to rot in GB? He’s been flown out and will be free in 9 months. The left love a myth.

  15. The issue with all these outlets is what do they choose to report? ABC News today chose to interview someone from Stand Up, who are not going to let the Hicks case go quietly.
No admission from either party that Hicks was not a regular citizen abroad.
He’s lucky he was not captured by the Serbs while “serving” in Bosnia - and summarily executed.
If he really does want to just lead a normal life from now on, he might gain some credit with time, quite a lot of time. But you do not have to be Einstein to twig to the desirability of leading a normal life. How criminally deranged do you have to be to take the course he took instead? If he remains in thrall to the RoP we have reason to remain supportive of the control orders, and disdainful/distrustful of boosters like the ABC, Fairfax, and Stand Up.

  16. Today’s Herald-Sun has Dale “Suss” Spender on the subject of the Digi-Kids. Not to be confused with the History Boys, these little paragons are doing it their way.
Blown away are all those concerns about inactivity and obesity. Gone are our fears that government schools are creches of non-learning spacey and timey irrelevance.
The members of the digital generation are also physically active and often noisy as they collaborate, send messages, do podcasts and wait for replies (or fan mail). The youngest of them coolly click the mouse to search out the Wiggles and solve puzzles and problems; they create new words and signs, and scan their screens seeking friends, experiences - and information.
Phew! Thanks Dale. As long as they’re noisy, sending messages and seeking even more info on the Wiggles, their (and our) future is bright.

  17. Thanks Melanie for some of that stright talking we see so little of in our mainstream media:
Multiculturalism has produced furthermore two particularly lethal effects. First, it has left all immigrants abandoned, and none more lethally so than young Muslims. For if there is no longer an overarching culture, there is nothing into which minorities can integrate. Many young Muslims in Britain, stranded between the backward Asian village culture of their parents and the drug, alcohol and sex-saturated decadence that passes for western civilisation, are filled with disgust and self-disgust. They are then given, in our multicultural schools and wider culture, absolutely nothing to educate them about or fill them with respect and affection for the western society of which they are citizens.

Indeed, worse than that our schools fail to teach them historical truths. If they were taught the truth about, say, the crusades, slavery or the history of Israel and the Arabs — truths they will never have heard —this might make a huge difference to their attitudes. Instead, their heads are filled with distorted anti-western and anti-British propaganda which only reinforces the lies they are told in the Arab and Muslim world, deepens their feelings of grievance and resentment towards the west and further inflames their hatred of Americans and Jews. They are thus intensely vulnerable to the predatory jihadis recruiting in youth clubs, in prisons and on campus, who promise them self-respect and a purpose to life based on holy war.
The whole article is a must-read.

  19. Former President Carter calls Bush the Worst President Ever.

It is for this that you need Ann Coulter.  From your memory you can then draw the prescient line :

Carter is so often maligned for his stupidity, it tends to be forgotten that he is also self-righteous, vengeful, sneaky, and backstabbing.

  20. I liked this from Reuterville after W decided to fire back at the peanut farmer (through his spokesman, anyway):

Sunday’s sharp response marks a departure from the deference that sitting presidents traditionally have shown their predecessors.

No mention is made of the deference ex-presidents traditionally have shown their successors and the fact that W has put up with this dictator-loving hack for over six years with nary a negativism. MSM bias? What bias?

  21. If I can continue in this vein, Carter calling W worst president ever is like Kim Jong Il calling Mother Teresa the worst human rights violator ever.
