HUMANE TREATMENT REQUESTED

Yet more Saddam sadness:

A daughter of Iraq’s ex-dictator Saddam Hussein was “outraged” by the published pictures of her jailed father dressed only in underwear, an aide said yesterday.

“She was shocked and outraged because of the pictures,” which appeared in a British newspaper, the aide of Raghad Hussein told AFP.

“She described the pictures as inhumane, and wondered why her father is not being treated as a human being and the father of three daughters,” the source said.

Saddam was also father-in-law to two of his daughters’ husbands. Until he had them both murdered.

UPDATE. Saddam wasn’t always so shy, reports Piers Akerman:

When he was in the box seat, as it were, happily murdering Iraqis, invading Kuwait and prosecuting the lengthy war against Iran, Saddam posed for the camera in his bathers a la Mao swimming the Yangtse.

Macho stuff. Man of Iron. There were no complaints about lack of modesty from the international salon of sorry sisters then. Nor were the handwringers too worried about reports of torture to the point of murder being carried out by Saddam’s jailers in Abu Ghraib.

  1. Funny that cutting a persons’ head off, whilst mocking their religion was neither ‘shocking’,‘inhumane’ or ‘outrageous’. Yet, take a photo of a man in his reg grundies and…... Funny perspective in that part of the world.

  2. Why are they giving airtime to these peoples’ “outrages” at these photos? Really, who gives a toss about this vile cretin.

Oh, sorry, I forgot… it paints the US as a human rights abuser… got it.

  4. Talking of human rights R.N.‘s presenter this morning was damning Philip Ruddock with reverse psychology.
“Philip Ruddock said he WAS the minister when Vivien Alvarez/Solon was deported.Philip Ruddock REJECTED the (accusation) that the immigration department was (imbued with) a pro-white culture.
The very fact that they have specially highlighted these two statements means that in the listener’s mind they must be highly significant, coming from the public broadcaster. Goodness knows what unjustified damage they cause via Radio Australia as well with these poisonous little jabs.

  14. #13 graboy. I think Saddman’s whelps are still alive because there’s so many of them. Same thing with Usama Bin Liner - they have so many wives and bastard offspring that if you were to kill them all you’d be done for genocide.

He murdered to get power and he murdered to enhance it, and to keep it. I hope that him being kept alive serves some useful purpose. It is possible that he is a rallying symbol even now among some groups. Survival is a victory for some, and he has survived too long.

If I recall correctly, this isn’t the first time she’s complained about US forces abusing human rights. I think she put in her 2 cents worth during abugate.

  25. What I don’t get is how is this the fault of the US Government?  Unlike Iraq, the US media and US Government are 2 seperate (mostly at odds) entities.  It is not like the US Adminstration or Military wanted these photos to be published.  Why would they do anything to possibly give Saddam points in his trial?

  26. The obscenity in this story is the amount of column inches devoted to people’s supposed outrage.  When did Hussien’s family become so sensitive & full of morals?  Did they have a conversion on the road to Damascus too?  Now I wonder what good news Chrenkoff has to say about this piece on non news ... probably very little.

Catastrophising about the rogue doctor in the Qld health system..“INDIAN doctor Patel”.Next step probably would have been to blame the Feds for not enough doctors.

  39. The timeless tyranny of the West.

Here’s an excerpt from a 1981 Quadrant article (written by Barry Humphries):

I had managed to smuggle out of Australia some horrifying statistics on our prison system here, and people in Zagreb were sickened to learn that Australian jails are currently holding over a quarter of a million men and women against their will.

Their only crime was that they broke the law.

It’s this kind of American culture imperialism I try to expose in the final sequence of CAGE and I only managed to shoot it after the cast had been improvising for over a year in a disused Chatswood brick kiln dressed up as funnel-web spiders. That way they were able to experience night and day what it’s like to be an oppressed ethnic minority under the jackboot heel of Australian Fascism.

    Margo would understand.
