LEUNIG DRAWS AND PAINTS ON STAGE
Melbourne Age permachild Michael Leunig is headed for Sydney:
In 2003, Aria Award winning singer/songwriter Gyan sent a ‘love letter’ of sorts to celebrated cartoonist Michael Leunig - a CD of songs inspired by his poems. The result was the exquisite Billy the Rabbit album and book. Now they are bringing their collaboration to the stage of Sydney Opera House for a strictly limited season of 4 shows.
“Strictly limited.” Never has Leunig been more accurately described.
Gyan sings her beautiful, bittersweet interpretations of Michael Leunig’s poems while Leunig draws and paints on stage, adding his own insightful and witty commentary as the imagery is projected onto a large screen.
Other projections may be directed towards the floor and into handbags.
Both uplifting and heartbreaking, Gyan and Leunig’s performance is full of the characteristic humour, poignancy and gentle observations that make Leunig such a loved artist.
To which Skeletor responds: “It’d be great to hear some tracks inspired by the work of Leunig. Like, I’ll Give You A Holocaust, Jewboy; Working Women Should Be Sterilised; John Howard Is Really Really REALLY Evil; Hail Hail the Heroes of Hamas, and the ever-popular You’re All Dobbed In To Media Watch.”
Not long ago, I got a mailing from the National Association of Episcopal Schools (I used to be a board member at one such school and I’m still paying for it in the form of junk mail). This particular newsletter opened with a lengthy quote by Michael Leunig.
Tells you all you need to know about what’s wrong with the Episcopal Church today, doesn’t it?

Excuse me, but I have to go vomit for awhile.

You know, this would make a great night out for the VRWC. Supply me with copious amounts of Victoria bitter, I for one would laugh my ass off. Although that admittedly might not be what they hope to elicit from the audience.

I’d love to watch An Inconvenient Bunch of Warm-mongering Exaggerations, Half-truths, Outright Lies and Other Assorted BS with all of you.

There’s no use denying that musical talent seems to come down on lefty moonbats more than on others.
What causes this selection to happen is open to speculation. Perhaps musically talented righty types tend to do something that pays more, which is to say, that there’s actual demand for.
Bwahahahaha! Which of you minions corrected the Wikipedia entry?
Gyan and Leuing launched the album at the Melbourne Nuremberg Festival where Gyan sang and Leunig accompanied her whilst illustrating. The two artists’ also performed together at the Byron Bay Anti-Semites Festival and will perform at the Sydney Opera House in March 2007.
The album was praised as ‘inspired’ by the Neo-Nazi Times and is the first of Gyan’s albums to be available on iTunes.

John’s son, Tom, not only does the finance markets report daily on 3AW he occasionally stands in for a presenter. A while back he took over Neil Mitchell’s slot and a couple of weeks back he did the same for Hinch.
He’s damn good. Makes Mitchell look like a pussy and is further right than Hinch - and speaks well too. Pity he’s got a high-paying day job at MM&E Capital (scrolll down).

Don’t tell there’s a Rose Tattoo link to this. At least Gaze wasn’t part of the original line up.
The first three albums were Aussie rock masterpieces but then Anderson became less Angry and started singing about dolphins and wishing he “was a tribesman, in the hills of Afghanistan”. (Still that was fighting the Russians so we can maybe overlook it.) The band had already broken up by then and the originals, apart from Anderson, had all been replaced. It was Anderson’s band, but you couldn’t replace Pete Wells.
