PIPES CLEARED

From the department of too-hilarious-to-be-true, this Ynet news item on a CNN appearance by Palestinian Authority envoy Afif Safieh:

The Palestinian envoy was asked by host Wolf Blitzer to comment on the recent violent Muslim demonstrations across the world that erupted in response to the publication of caricatures mocking Prophet Muhammad in a Danish paper.

Safieh replied by saying that his personal acquaintance with both western and eastern societies has led him to believe the pro-Israeli Likud’s global wing acted to bring the western, mostly-Christian society to a collision course with Islam.

Stunned by Safieh’s answer, Blitzer asked his guest whether he was serious, or only joking. Safieh then explained that the editor of the Danish newspaper that originally published the cartoons is a fan of Jewish right-wing columnist Daniel Pipes, and that the two cooperated in distributing the caricatures that roused furor among Muslims.

Daniel Pipes colluded with a Danish editor to distribute the cartoons? Comedy gold! The Ynet news account, however, is way off the mark. Safieh is plenty crazy, but the CNN transcript reveals only routine Palenoia, with no claim of a Pipes-Dane cartoon conspiracy:

SAFIEH: Well, I personally believe, and I speak here as an Arab but also as a Christian very familiar of Western society and its values. I believe today, we live in a worrying period, where Islamophobia has become a permitted, permissible form of racism. Those cartoons were unnecessary offense and deliberate offense. By the way, do you know that the editor, the cultural editor of this Danish magazine ...

BLITZER: Flemming Rose.

SAFIEH: Yes. Is a fan and an admirer of Daniel Pipes, the person who here is terrorizing the university campuses asking students to become informer on their professors to see what they are teaching in class, if they show sympathy for Palestinians and Arabs.

Let me tell you, sir, I personally believe, knowing both societies, the Eastern one and the Western one, today the pro-Israeli Likud wing around the world wants to push—to put on a collision course the Western, mainly Christian world.

To which Daniel Ayalon, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, quite sensibly replied: “It’s just nonsense.”

  1. Daniel Pipes! Terrorising university campuses! By himself! A sort of Chuck Norris of academia, landing piston-like blows on the neck-bone of Islamist insanity! Got. To Love it.

  2. Seems like Mr. Safieh, an Arab Christian, is parroting the party line like a good little dhimmi.

  3. I’ve heard that Pipes likes the ladies—never stupid ones, though—so that makes him more likely to be an enemy to the wife-beating honor-killing hide-em-in-burkas crowd.

    Go, Pipesy, go!

  5. This whole cartoon flap and associated mini-flaps would be unspeakably funny if they weren’t also so goddamn sad. I mean—violent protests against *Valentine’s Day*? A blow up doll called ‘Mustafa Shag’? And the idea that everything, and I do mean *everything*, is the fault not only of *Israelis* but of Jews anywhere and everywhere—guys who would only count as ‘Jewish’ under the Nuremburg laws, guys with vaguely Jewish sounding names, guys who might look Jewish if you catch them out of the corner of your eye really fast. . .

If it didn’t earn one a swift knife to the ribs, this would be a golden age in which to be a comedian.

  8. Of course it’s pipes’s fault, no one would think to make fun of crazed suicide bombers without being directed.

  11. Where else but on CNN (and any Muslim TV show) would you hear such crap and who else but Wolf Blitzer, self-hating and western hating Jew (together with all Arabs) would listen to it attentively without puking?

  12. I know this is a comedy script written by those nasty Jews who control Hollywood and world media.    I’d laugh except that Palestinian Authority envoy Afif Safieh believes it to be true.  If he represents the educated Palestinian elite…what can you say about the rest

  13. Mr Tim, above

Daniel Pipes colluded with a Danish editor to distribute the cartoons? Comedy gold!

It’s gold?  Around here, one finds it strewn everywhither.  Indeed, one spends some time each day cleaning it from one’s boots.  Here’s a sample from, um, last Friday, from the “Fox turns Chicken” thread:

The Jylland Posten is a neocon rag and its oxymoronically termed Culture Editor is an admirer of the odious arch Zionist Daniel Pipes, of the Orwellian US Institute of Peace… Hardly surprising that this genius would deliberately do something that would be guaranteed to stir up hotheads in the Muslim world. The same paper did say it was going to print Holocaust cartoons (!!???) but has since “changed its mind” Why do you think that was and don’t you think that would be oh so peachy a way of showing just how “balanced” their disrespect of every thing/body/religion/belief (etc) can be??

Had I known that gold was this cheap and plentiful, let alone smelled like this, I’d never have bought all those shares of Newmont Mining, I must say!

  15. It’s time to ditch our Aussie Passports in favour of our new Religious preference passports.

This will be the new slimmed lined passport good for entry in many Religious states around the world. For example to enter the old India why not have only a hindu passport then it dosn’t matter. How bout the Atheiast passport what a blast it would be going into China.

You know, this cartoon thing has really opened us up to the new world.

  16. #13—StoopDD:

Be careful, it might be the sign of the market top if you can find it strewn about everywhere, i.e. more sellers than buyers!

I think there must be an analogy in there somewhere along the lines of, “I’m not buying all these explanations for Muslim outrage over a bunch of cartoons!” and, “the opinions offered—shit—aren’t worth the price of gold.”

  17. Awww…..

For the latest absurd “offense,” radical clerics threaten and whine because the Danish prime minister met only with moderate Muslim groups!critics said the premier’s meeting with a network of moderate Muslims led by Syrian-born lawmaker Naser Khader risked escalating the situation by making radical groups feel left out

That’ll be a good one, and I guess the best thing about living in the west is you get compensation $$$, unlike the 5 pillars at mecca, where you only get well, it’s an honour to die there for Allah bit by the organisation as reported by them.

Is he “the brother” on the pension still?
