NEWS BRIEFLETS

* Congratulations to Donnah on two years of pure cracker goodness. This is still one of the funniest posts you’ll ever read; and, if you missed them the first time, please scroll through Donnah’s hilariously deadpan comments here.

* MoDo, why you no speak to your old friends? Why, MoDo?

* Good news for Iraq.

* The phrase of the day: “I had my gun coming out the door after him and he’s right here at this point. That’s when I was fixing to lay it down.”

  2. Oh, sorry, my bad for not visiting the site for a week and seeing that it was already covered (the issue, not the bum).  Its just that having worked in the sheep industry for many years, and having had to kill flyblown sheep, I lack any sympathy whatsoever for these pricks (even if that is a nice bum).

    Doesn’t matter.  The guy who was trying to rob him didn’t speak English either.

  4. If sheep are to be treated like humans, like PETA wants them to be, why not offer them the brazilian for ewes and a back, crack & sack for rams … mulesing may be a bit painful for hairy arsed sheep, but being fly blown is a real pain in the arse.

    Seriously, PETA have agendas that go way beyond mulesing, and I wouldn’t trust them to represent animal welfare.

    Tim has run the ad, I think, because he is a shit stirrer.

    BTW, my 11YO daughter helps out on the family farm treating fly blown sheep when we visit.  She quaintly calls the chemical treatment she brushes on them as a marinade!

  7. Years ago I worked for a Japanese company and they also seemed to find the uniquely-Southern use of the word “fixing” both amusing and perplexing.
    I have a theory about the origins of this usage (I’m from Alabama, so I’m “qualified”):

    The word, when used in this manner, obviously means “preparing”.  I think this stems from the phrase “getting fixed up” or “fixing my face”, which is a reference to a woman putting on makeup before she goes out (another phrase used is “fixing dinner”).

    So there ya go.

  8. BTW, completely OT:
    When you click my name on the previous comment it takes you to my old blog address which has been taken over by someone else.

    Yeeha.

  9. The word “fix” comes from the Latin figere, to fasten.  The Southernism “fixing to” (like many Southernisms) was brought to America by Elizabethan-English speaking country folk.
