<< LITTLE REDS BOOKED ~ MAIN ~ A GOOD YEAR FOR FREEDOM >>

O BONZA TREE

We don’t celebrate Kwanzaa in Australia. Instead, we revel in Bonza, a day of traditional Australian cultural pursuits: songs, film, poetry, filling in applications for arts grants, and so on. Imre Salusinszky began this year’s Bonza a week early:

When I was a lass in Sassafrass,
There was nuthin’ we couldn’t handle,
With Uncle Fred’s shovel, or Uncle Bill’s pick,
Or Aunt Ethel’s “special” candle.
Fred’s shovel dug our mighty well,
Bill’s pick, it broke the stones some,
And as for Ethel’s candle, well,
In ‘Frass it could get lonesome ...

Merry Bonza, everybody! And, for anybody not beholden to Australian traditions, please enjoy that Christmas thing that happens in some countries.

(Okay, Bonza aside, very best Christmas wishes to all readers, commenters, linkers, fellow bloggers, supporters, opponents, trolls, oafs, and infants, and all of your families. Have a great day—Tim)

  21. To the tune of O Christmas Tree:

O Christmas Time, O Christmas Time,
I swear I won’t get pissed this time!
I’ll drink the water, not the red,
Think of my liver and my head.
But all’s not lost; I’ll always be
An animal on New Year’s Eve.

    GOD BLESS US, EVERYBODY!

  23. Merry Christmas and happy Bonza. The Bonza Babes link at Tim’s linked old entry is no longer active, Yahoo search finds nothing, Google cache turns up just the default Yahoo page where the site was, and the Wayback Machine teases with a bunch of seeming links that go nowhere. Image searches for “Bonza babes” turn up nothing—and, for “Bonza,” turn up images of many things, especially dogs, very sound-looking hounds, of many breeds. What is “Bottling Bonza”? I’ve heard of the joke name “Giuseppe Bottlabonza.” This “Bonza” seems to have a mysterious and wide-ranging significance. What the heck is it?

What can I say, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

  33. 19# Depends which Rosemount Shiraz Andrea.

For a celebration such a Christmas, the flavour-free Diamond Label, or equally bland Split-Label are to be avoided.  Get some Balmoral Syrah!
