PLEDGE URGED

NSW Premier and official state beach inspector Morris Iemma had the solution to gang violence—all the way back in 1998!

His 1998 plan wasn’t quite as dramatic as closing down the coastline, but it sounded kinda fierce, even though it plainly had little effect. Be interesting to see if the NSW Liberals—as lame a bunch as you’d find outside of, say, the federal ALP—follows up Professor Bunyip’s useful research.

Sounding the opposite of fierce are our old friends at GetUp!, the revolutionary online political movement that promised to revolutionise Australian politics through the power of politicised revolutionism (don’t bother hitting that link; the site is down). Following the success of an earlier community spam campaign, the GetUpsters are now begging us via email to GetDown and send grovelling letters of shame to the Prime Minister and everybody else:

Please click here to sign this personal pledge and message to John Howard:

I recognise the reality of racism in Australia and the threat it poses to the cultural diversity and decency that has made this country great.

I pledge to take personal responsibility for racism in myself and in those around me. I will identify and confront racism everywhere andevery time I see it.

I call on you, as our nations leader, to make a clear statement recognising the reality of racism in our country and to pledge to take personal responsibility for confronting it, as I am doing today.

Australian multiculturalism is a work in progress, and it certainly isnt perfect. But with hard work, patience and dignity we have worked together to advance Australia fair. Now is a critical moment for each of us to publicly recommit to that process.

Please forward this pledge to all your friends, co-workers and family.

Thanks for being part of this.

Get bent. In other spectacular racial division news, the ABC’s radio coverage of Monday night’s rolling street mayhem in Sydney was so hopeless that taxi drivers were instructed by their companies to tune to commercial broadcasters so they wouldn’t miss any crucial developments. The ABC’s news judgment continues to surprise.

UPDATE. As a means of defending your own apartment, Molotov cocktails probably aren’t the best idea:

Flatmates Mark Barry Miller, 33, and Mathew John Lalor, 24, decided to make their own Molotov cocktails from discarded beer-bottles and methylated spirits after intruders allegedly overran their apartment on Monday night, Sutherland Local Court was told yesterday ...

The two men, who were charged with making explosives with the intent to injure, now face a possible five-year jail term.

Hey, at least they won’t incinerate themselves.

  1. I put the violence down to laws against gambling.

If you can bet that yours is the best culture against the other guy, there’s no need to prove your point further.

    Put a hundred on it.

Bar bets head off bar altercations.

  2. The GetBent people must be referring to the racism displayed by Muslim youth gangs, right?

As soon as we get that Sharia thingy going, though, it will be perfect!

I pledge not to be bullied by those who use the race card every time they see it’s to their advantage.

  5. How does signing an email card do anything about racism? This is but another example of conspicious compassion. That is, doing things that make you feel morally superior without actually doing anything. The best way to combat racism is to treat people as equals and to condemn idiotic behaviour regardless of where it’s coming from: moronic and drunken Aussies, sad and pathetic neo-Nazis, boofhead and sexist Lebanese etc etc

  6. Australians have the runs on the board to prove that they are not racist. They are decidedly ratbagist. Our tolerance for ratbags is low, and the wet left media should recognise that they are insulting Australians with their phony racism bleats. The problems we are encountering are cultural.

  9. More gestural, feel-good politics. As Darlene says, this is the cheap way to advertise how good you are. What bollocks.

One suspects it’s simply a handy defence although, if true (and even if not), it sends a frightening message out to ordinary folk under siege in their own homes - ‘Don’t try to defend yourself in any way or form whatsoever’.

And don’t try calling the cops, either. They’ll be waiting 300 metres down the street outside the no-go zone.

But wait! There is a defence! You can yell “I’m proud to be Australian!” as you fall under a hail of baseball bat blows.

  11. Where is the Society For Creative Anachronisms in all this?  They have people experienced in fighting hand-to-hand with rattan swords and shields.  These can be quite effective at stuff like breaking bones in the right hands.  They could hold classes for Aussie yobbos who want to defend themselves, their loved ones, their beaches, and their beer from Leb Muslim gangs.  Also, the idea of fighting Saracens ought to right up their alley.

Of course, most of the SCA people I’ve met here in the States are themselves moonbats, so they might be in the dhimmi camp there in Oz.  Curses.

Yes, it’s a problem.  Leftwing racism.  I think they should apologize in a groveling fashion and contribute wads of cash to the Liberal Party as punishment.

  15. Isn’t Getup a front for the Labor Party? I remember every one’s favourite trade unionist Bill Shorten promoting it on the radio and guess who the state president of the Victorian ALP is now? Why it’s Bill.

  18. I (kinda) work in the media, the televisual type.

Today was hilarious with the “peace” rallies going on everywhere. Watching the raw footage, it was 99% lily-white skin, with the odd Asian appearance.  The cameramen were almost dropping their cameras trying to get the “foreigners” in shot.

Interesting that in a rally against hoWARd’s rasism, there were no people who were actually of “race”.  Just a bunch of feel-bad whities singing folk songs and banging drums.
