PURSUIT BEGINS

The battle for the Will Swanton Trophy enters its final innings. Australia requires 307 to win. Match summary here; live updates here. Visit Rezwan and Mezba for Bangladeshi views.

UPDATE. Australia 1/114 after 43 overs.

UPDATE II. Rezwan: “One thing Bangladesh has done with their performance is to silence many loose mouths who do not want to treat Bangladesh with respect.” Absolutely; the match now seems certain to enter a fifth day.

UPDATE III. Australia halfway there. 1/153 with 24 overs remaining today.

UPDATE IV. Em comments: “Baghera shei khela-i dekhalo. gorjon to dure thak, ekta meow porjonto ber korlo na.” Well, I wouldn’t go that far.

UPDATE V. Hayden run out for 72. Australia 2/173.

UPDATE VI. Rafique strikes again! Australia 4/212 at close of play. Either team could win.

  1. It looks like the Australians may yet salvage this game.

Even if they do, I think it will be seen as a moral victory for Bangladesh, if not a turning point in how seriously they are taken. Good luck to ‘em.

  2. After reading the tripe written before the series I do hope the Bangledeshis manage a win.

It’ll be good for the Aussie team to eat a bit of humble pie before the Ashes, so hopefully they’ll be a bit more motivated for the big one.

  7. UPDATE IV. Em: He said (nothing bad):

“Tigers have again gone back to their usual bad performance, let alone roar, not even a meow was heard.”

Well you can understand the frustration of the earnest supporters.

  8. can someone translate into English for those of us who are cricket challenged?  Or point me to a good primer website?  It is a game I have tried to sit down & watch several times thinking I would figure it out, and I haven’t.

  11. 4-205 (Clarke, 71.4 ov) Rafique strikes again! But time and target (less than 100) are still on Australia’s side.

  12. bill w et al ... one of the most endearing features of the game of cricket is its relaxed pace when played as a Test or a Shield match.  We live in an accelerated world where we are time poor and consume our sports in the same way.  That might give some people satisfaction, but for this black duck, I like the non rushed and drawn out nature of cricket.  It’s therapy.

Not to be confused with one day cricket, which I usually enjoy, and 20-20 cricket, which is carnival cricket, showy but not very satisfying.

For those not familiar with the game, try it for its chill out effect.

  18. 12. I can give you an example of the chill of which you speak. One of the most pleasant winter (US, February) mornings I spent was listening to Radio Australia’s commentary (pre-Internet), just as the frequency was starting to fade, of an Adelaide Ashes test that the home side could have salvaged only by a 6 on the final ball. Didn’t have to work that day, just lay in bed spellbound.

  19. Ah, Mr nuke_everyone Welcome back!

It gives our scriptwriters the chance to finish the screenplay which has been held up ever since LLL and stiffybronchitis unfortunately disappeared beneath the waves.

lets just hope we beat those muslims

Although takes some skill to come up with non sequiters like your ‘muslim’ comment in a cricket thread…..

it must be said the a nswelshman like Clarke certainly gets many more chances than a Vic like Hodgey

The scriptwriters are complaining; they say you really must do better.  Your character (or rather your inherited character) is an intelligent yet misguided idealist lefty, consumed by a mission to skewer righty bastards by subtle comments and clever arguments.

(moves closer so no-one else can hear)  Mate, so far your comments here and in other threads show you to be an unsubtle moron.  People can tell you are a fuckwit - but you can cover that if you try harder, nukey.  Lift your game!
