REAL AWARD FOR FAKE JOURNALIST

Brave media dissident Dan Rather wins a prize:

CBS News’ Dan Rather accepted broadcast journalism’s most prestigious honor on Monday for the “60 Minutes Wednesday” story that exposed the shocking conditions inside Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison.

Rather received extended applause after telling the crowd, “Never give up, never back up, never give in while pursuing the dream of integrity filled journalism that matters.”

He never did back up that George W. Bush memo story, did he? Keep chasing the dream, Dan.

UPDATE. Rather’s TV show has been cancelled.

  2. Not only that, it was the Pentagon who first released the Abu Ghraib story…the media (except for Michael Kelly and Mark Steyn) were all cowering in Baghdad.

  4. The media’s contribution to the Iraq war has been to add to the time it takes, and the ultimate cost in both human lives and money, to finish the job.

  19. Just finished watching the very good “I am Not An Animal” on TV. It features a rabbit which has been genetically altered for use as a call centre drone, and programmed to utter advice to the computerlorn - statements such as “Go to the Tools Heading on the Toolbar ...” drip from its mouth.
Planetirf is a lot like that.
Not an original thought, but reams of agitprop will spill from his keyboard, boring us all shitless until Andrea puts the merciful pistol to his flealike head.

  20. Irf, I don’t know what planet you are on, but I just checked your web site.  If a bunch of terrorist twats had any of my family I would not want some Islamofascist wanker posing as a humanitarian to do any further damage.  I would want the maximum punishment handed out to the people who committed then crime.  Mind you, you probably think that is the West.

  21. Is anyone else amazed at the ability of the Leftist in the Wild to ignore the news? If “Irf” had half the brains it believes it does, it would be aware of the trials—and convictions—of the people responsible for Abu Ghraib.

(Of course, it probably believes those trials are a cover-up of some sort. Never mind all the investigations and cross-checking and supposed “breaking stories” that have never connected anyone above NCO to the actual abuse. Or that the administration not only began the investigation and prosecution long before the press had ever HEARD of Abu Ghraib, but had made statements about it during daily briefings. Or that the press ignored the story for months until someone leaked the photos to anti-Bush fanatic Mapes.)

  29. “This is the CBS Evening News, Dan Rather reporting.  Our lead story tonight: a new development in the O.J. Simpson murder case.  In a statement released today, the former NFL star claimed to have found the, quote, real killer, unquote, of his estranged wife Nicole Brown Simpson.  We go live to our CBS correspondent Jayson Blair, who is standing outside Simpson’s estate in Brentwood, California.  Jayson, what can you tell us?”

“Well, Dan, according to Simpson’s spokesperson, Lucy Ramirez, internal memos from president George W. Bush’s commanding officer in the Texas Air National Guard, recently uncovered by Newsweek reported Michael Isikoff, conclusively prove that Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone , flushed Nicole Brown Simpson down a toilet at the notorious Guantanamo Bay detention facility. . . . .”
