RESTAURANTS OF PEACE
This story appeared more than a year prior to 2005’s London transport bombings:
Four young British Muslims in their twenties - a social worker, an IT specialist, a security guard and a financial adviser - occupy a table at a fast-food chicken restaurant in Luton. Perched on their plastic chairs, wolfing down their dinner, they seem just ordinary young men. Yet out of their mouths pour heated words of revolution.
“As far as I’m concerned, when they bomb London, the bigger the better,” says Abdul Haq, the social worker. “I know it’s going to happen because Sheikh bin Laden said so. Like Bali, like Turkey, like Madrid - I pray for it, I look forward to the day.”
Those “homegrown terrorist” attacks of July 7 weren’t quite as much of a surprise as many thought. And now we have this:
British police said last night they had arrested 16 men in two separate anti-terrorism operations just three weeks after uncovering a suspected plot to bring down US-bound airliners over the Atlantic.
Fourteen of the men were held in London in an operation that a police source said focused on suspected “training, recruitment and encouraging others to take part in terrorist activity”.
Twelve suspects were arrested at or near a Chinese restaurant. Osama fans enjoy eating out. Meanwhile, in Morocco:
The Moroccan police have arrested 56 suspected members of a terrorist network as part of a monthlong antiterror sweep, the country’s official news agency reported on Thursday.
The suspects, associated with a Muslim group calling itself Ansar al-Mahdi, are accused of plotting terrorist attacks in the North African kingdom, the official MAP news agency said. Moroccan officials could not be reached for comment on Friday.
The group was planning to “announce a holy war in the mountains of North Morocco, attack sensitive targets, foreign interests and well-known Moroccans because they represent the state or for moral reasons,” the news agency quoted the interior minister, Chakib Benmoussa, as saying.
If only Morocco hadn’t joined the invasion of Iraq. Then the nation would be safe. Just like Germany.
UPDATE. Peter Clarke, head of Metropolitan Police anti-terror efforts:
What we’ve learned since 9/11 is that the threat is not something that’s simply coming from overseas into the United Kingdom. What we’ve learned, and what we’ve seen all too graphically and all too murderously, is that we have a threat which is being generated here within the United Kingdom.
A complete blogger round-up here.

#11: I’m new here, so I won’t presume to lecture anyone as to how they should conduct themselves on this site…except to say that using words like that is most definitely NOT cool.
The left seem to find it all too easy to label anyone with conservative views as a Nazi - let’s not give them ammunition.
It’s only a matter of time until Britain gets hit again, and when they do, it’s going to be the US that the British public blame. This is turn will cause a lot of Americans to question the motives of the British people and at some point, a revoking of the special British passport privileges that are unique to that country. It becomes a security issue.
And can it be any other way? Britain has recklessly let in hundreds of thousands of ‘Barbarians’, drilled into their heads that the native culture is rather decadent and not worth defending, and that there is no need to assimilate. Add to that, the irresponsible reporting of the Guardian, BBC, etc. which is most times biased and at worst a flat out lie, then for your average Briton it is indeed America’s fault that his countrymen are dying, even though it is a situation of his own making.
So while the British government is cracking down, I’m not at all convinced it’s for the right reasons. Nothing positive can come of this unless British Islamism’s true ideological roots are confronted and nothing leads me to believe that Britain is equipped to do that.
It’s rather sad and I think it portends America’s future to a degree.
#13,firstly, they label anybody who criticizes multiculturalism as a nazi, secondly, anybody who rapes a 15 year old girl for 22 hours is not fit to be considered a member of the human race, they are indeed sub-human in every sense of the word. They, and their ilk, should never have been allowed into the country in the first place and all of them need to be deported, post-haste.
It’d be a shame if the jihad came to such a culturally rich country as Morocco. Remember, that’s where Black Hawk Down was filmed.

Take a minute to read this story…......
From the daughter of a Soldier.
Last week I was in Melbourne attending a conference. While I was in the
airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to
clap and cheer.
I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest acts of
patriotism I have ever seen.
Moving through the terminal was a group of soldiers in their uniforms,
As they began heading to their gate everyone (well almost everyone) was
abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering. When I saw
The soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, being applauded and cheered for, it hit me. I’m not alone. I’m not the
only red blooded Australian who still loves this country and supports our
Troops and their families.Of course I immediately stopped and began clapping for these Young
Unsung heroes who are putting their lives on the line everyday for us so
we can go to school, work, and enjoy our home without fear or reprisal.Just when I thought I could not be more proud of my country or of our
service men and women a young girl, not more than 6 or 7 years old, ran
Up to one of the male soldiers.
He knelt down and said “hi,” the little girl then asked him if he would
Give something to her daddy for her. The young soldier didn’t look any
older than maybe 22 himself, said he would try and what did she want to give
To her daddy.Suddenly the little girl grabbed the neck of this soldier, gave him
the biggest hug she could muster and then kissed him on the cheek.
The mother of the little girl, who said her daughters name was
Courtney, told the young soldier that her husband was a Corporal and
had been in Afghanistan for 11 months now. As the mum was explaining
how much her daughter, Courtney, missed her father, the young soldier
began to tear up.When this temporarily single mum was done explaining her situation,
all of the soldiers huddled together for a brief second. Then one of
the other servicemen pulled out a military looking walkie-talkie. They
Started playing with the device and talking back and forth on it. After
about 10-15 seconds of this, the young soldier walked back over to Courtney,
bent down and said this to her, “I spoke to your daddy and he told me to give
this to you.” He then hugged this little girl that he had just met and gave
her a kiss on the cheek. He finished by saying “Your daddy told me to tell
you that he loves you more than anything and he is coming home very
soon.”The mum at this point was crying almost uncontrollably and as the young
soldier stood to his feet he saluted Courtney and her mum. I was
standing no more than 6 feet away as this entire event unfolded. As the soldiers began to leave, heading towards their gate, People
resumed their applause. As I stood there applauding and looked around, there
were very few dry eyes, including my own. That young soldier in one last act of moment turned around and blew a
kiss to Courtney with a tear rolling down his cheek. We need to remember everyday all of our soldiers and their Families and
thank God for them and their sacrifices. At the end of the day, it’s good to be an Australian.
RED FRIDAYS
Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday.
The reason? Australian’s who support our troops used to be called the
“silent majority”.
We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God,
country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organised,
boisterous or over-bearing. We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to
reflect our message or our opinions. Many Australian’s, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to
recognise that the vast majority of Australia supports our troops.
Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity
and respect starts this Friday -and continues each and every Friday until
the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that every Australian
who supports our men and women afar will wear something red.
By word of mouth, press, TV—let’s make Australia every Friday a sea
Of red much like a homecoming football team.
If every one of us who loves this country will share this with
acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family. It will not be long
before Australia’s covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once
“silent"majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media
lets on.The first thing a soldier says when asked “What can we do to Make
things better for you?” is…“We need your support and your prayers”.
Let’s get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example; and
wear something red every Friday.IF YOU AGREE— THEN SEND THIS ON IF YOU COULD NOT CARE LESS THEN HIT
THE DELETE BUTTON. IT IS YOUR CHOICE.THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED——SO WEAR RED!—- Lest we Forget,
Lest we Forget.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!Howzat, please don’t post articles without attribution.

#13 Presume away, and welcome. I have objected to this individual’s use of the term on this site many times.
We cut nature up, organise it into concepts, and ascribe significances as we do, largely because we are parties to an agreement that holds throughout our speech community and is codified in the patterns of our language.
The agreement is, of course, an implicit and unstated one, but its terms are absolutely obligatory; we cannot talk at all except by subscribing to the organisation and classification of data which the agreement decrees.
I happen to reject the “taxonomy” of the word used in post #12. The fact that the deponent persists in employing it places that individual outside my “community”—and renders all they say suspect, even that with which I might agree in principle or substance.

That email has been doing the rounds for a couple of weeks in Oz, and has been the subject of some discussion on military forums on the web.
Consensus is that it was created in the US based on an Anheuser-Busch commercial titled “Quiet Commercial”, and the key words changed to fit Australia. Nice sentiment, but not Australian. There is no “Red Friday” contemplated in Australia via any ex service organisation that I am aware of.

Posted by Wimpy Canadian on 2006 09 03 at 10:06 AM • permalinkDaniel San: what kind of good does refusing people service in a shop do? If they are being obnoxious, that’s one thing, but simply being a Muslim woman—which makes her a figure of oppression, no matter how blind at the moment she is to the facts of her existence—isn’t grounds for refusing anyone service; it’s just rude and pointless bigotry that will not serve our cause.
Of course, like all articles on this subject, it is beyond vague as to the nature of the “refusal of service” that the woman experienced, so what really happened is impossible to conjecture.

#53 Andrea,
Rude but necessary. Besides, trying to establish a global caliphate could be considered quite rude. If these zombies get their wish I’ll be getting a whole lot ruder. Being refused service will let them know that ordinary people are sick of their bullshit and are standing up to them. If we are going to deal with this menace we will need to do some things that go against our nature, it won’t be pleasant.Posted by Daniel San on 2006 09 03 at 12:55 PM • permalinkBeing refused service will let them know that ordinary people are sick of their bullshit and are standing up to them.

I consider the poster at #11 to be AT LEAST as much a threat to me and my family as any Muslim.
Having said that, I invite response.
Posted by MentalFloss on 2006 09 03 at 04:50 PM • permalinkFirstly,I view Zionism (outside of Israel) as big a threat to the national life and character of my nation as I do Islamism (outside of Islamic countries) or Marxism. Where there is Marxism, there will be anti-Marxists, where there is Islamism, there will be anti-Islamism, where this is Zionism, there will be anti-Zionism, where there is semitism, there will be anti-semitism, it is the natural order of things, a question of balance. I personally do not have any issue with the existence of Israel, the Arabs of course may take another view, however, it’s their problem not mine. I also find the suggestion by those on the far left and right stating that Israel is the cause of terrorism in the ME or a threat to world peace disingenuous at best, such an assertion simply ignores Islamic imperialism, a willful and dangerous state of affairs.
Secondly, it wasn’t Jews running through the Sutherland shire with baseballs bats in December, it was Islam, which poses the most direct threat to my nation, followed closely by rampant asianisation. Ethnic whites must assert themselves (even as Jews assert themselves, Israel should be looked upon as a model of a nationalism), as an identity, as part of a European ‘diaspora’ or face extinction under the heel of multi-culturalism and multi-racialism. Australian history may be only 200 (and a bit) years old, however our European heritage stretches back for centuries, Shakespeare and Erasmus, etc are every bit a part of our heritage as Lawson and Paterson. It was Europeans that made this country the country it is today and I can see no compelling reason why Australia cannot remain a predominantly white European country, racially and culturally.

I would say, however, that there is a vast difference between “White Nationalism” and “White Supremacy”.
Though you may—to use your term—“tap dance” around that subject here in this place, your commentary elsewhere evinces a rather more sinister agenda; the provenance and end purpose of which is justifiably, in my opinion, very suspect indeed.
We have mutually antagonistic world-views—let’s leave it at that and converse no more.

When they start to show some respect for my country, I’ll start to show some respect in return. being refused service is a powerful statement, more powerful in effect than mere words. I’m sorry we have to disagree on this, as I have a lot of respect for you( also sorry for over-using the word respect).Posted by Daniel San on 2006 09 04 at 01:14 AM • permalinkWhew, and here I thought I was going to have to sign off this blog for good and all.

Posted by MentalFloss on 2006 09 04 at 02:03 AM • permalinkYou know, Daniel, we don’t even know the circumstances we are arguing about. For instance, why was she refused service? The article does not say. Was she obnoxious in the store? Or merely wearing different clothes? If the latter, then the “powerful statement” being sent is that the store owner is a bigoted lout. I’m not sure how that will translate into “you’d better show some respect.” I don’t respect bigoted louts.
On the other hand, if she started going into hysterics because of something stupid, like—oh, I don’t know, she had to walk past a display of bikinis, or something—then the store owner would be justified in tossing her out on her ear.
A third possibility is that Muslims in your country have a history of being troublesome, annoying shoppers who make trouble in every store they enter. Is this the case? Because there might then be a slight chance that your shopkeepers are justified in turning away anyone in Muslim garb. But if neither of the last two scenarios is actually the case then I must fall back on the bigoted lout theory. Bigots are not helpful to our cause.
Posted by Andrea Harris, Administrator on 2006 09 04 at 02:05 AM • permalinkMentalfloss, I was surprised that daza/darrinh was able to restrain himself for so long. I’ve wandered around the political spectrum, and I think one of the primary reasons I’m starting to consider myself a “conservative” (for want of a label) is that it’s the only mainstream political philosophy that allows for a rejection of mid-twentieth century collectivism and its loathsome theories of racial and historical determinism.
It really irks me that I get bundled in with idiots like daza, so it’s reassuring to know that his ilk are a barely tolerated exception, rather than the rule, in this forum.Oh, and “If you have any other questions, feel free to call me on…”: what the hell was that all about?

Yeah, when I read off of the Net that they’d met at a restaurant, I figured a curry house. (I guess that makes me guilty of ethnic profiling.) And then just saw on the TV news report that it was actually a Chinese restaurant, surprising me, forgotten the name already, but it had something to do with a bridge as there was its logo-ad of a pagoda with a bridge and old London Bridge side-by-side opening for a boat. BTW, with 19 do you get egg roll?
