RICH, WHITE, AND STUPID

Markos Moulitsas rejoices in the wealthy whiteness YearlyKos brought to the Democrats:

It’s actually a cross-section of the real Democratic Party. Maybe a little whiter, maybe with a bit more money than the typical party person. But generally speaking, we are the Democratic Party and all the efforts to marginalize us really are falling flat.

Why, YearlyKos was almost whiter than Howard Dean’s cabinet. Christopher Hayes observed the same pale phenomenon:

I couldn’t help but notice that the 2004 Democratic National Convention, a redoubt of the party insiders, was far more diverse than YearlyKos.

I’d bet the Republican National Convention was more diverse as well. Last word to Ben Shapriro:

There’s a reason the candidates Moulitsas backs always lose: He’s a loser.

  1. From the article behind the first link: “Could this past weekend’s Yearly Kos convention—the conclave of 900 activists sponsored by the Daily Kos web site—turn out to be the most significant political gathering of 2006?” W-a-al, I don’t know about most significant, but I bet it’s right up there with your average Elk’s Club Smoker, or maybe even the Young Socialists Workers Convention held at the KOA campground in Frostproof, Florida a few years back.

LMAO! It’s a Junior Joe Stalin Jamboree!

    Frostproof, Florida?

  3. You mean the most activist Kosplayers are almost exclusively guilt-ridden, rich, white liberals? Say it isn’t so, comrade!

  5. Wow!! Yearlykos was attended by a whole bunch of second- and third- tier possible Dem candidates for president.  How much more proof do we need of their importance (the Kossaks, that is)?

And they are pumping the anti-Walmart line.  If there is a single marker of the Trustafarian, guilt- and angst-ridden, upper-middle class, white, snobbish Lefty I don’t know what it is.

Walmart is eeeeeevil.  All it does is provide a huge number of jobs (with benefits) that provide upward mobility for thousands of people while simultaneously selling pretty good stuff pretty darned cheap.  Gasp!! Don’t those plebs know how wrong this is?  Why don’t they listen to their intellectual betters?  What the Hell is wrong with these poor people?  They don’t want to remain poor and vote for Lefties the way Marxist theory says they should.

I’ll pay more attention when these children of privilege give up a bit of it for the cause.

Can one also claim to be the “progressive” party while cheerfully claiming to be the “real” (whiter, richer) Democratic Party?  Is this paradox the reason why Kos always backs losers?  Other than being a loser himself, that is.

  10. This whole YearlyKos business ain’t nothin’ but a big ol’ raree show where unsophisticated lefty yokels - who fancy themselves as tomorrow’s Democratic kommissars in the larval stage -  come and gawk at Harry Reid and Wesley Clark and all the other 15-foot alligators and 2-ton bulls and pygmy horses that make up the party.  Truth to tell, all these political magnificoes will be completely forgotten five minutes after angels have wafted them to their eternal reward, and the kossaks will never rise above the lowing herd.

  12. Yeah Well, I liked the “activist” from Maine who loves Chavez because he is hurting Bush.

I can relate to that kos I rooted for Bosnia until late January of 2001.  It was only then that the well-being of our troops mattered again.  Words fail, they really do.

This lot should look across to the Republicans for diversity.  In Bush term as President he was had two prominant black members in his team; Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell.  Both were appointed because of their talent and experience not to fill a quota.  If America gains a black President soon it will be one of these two.  It won’t be because “it is time” it will because they will be the best person for the job.  Speaking from an Australian perspective that is.

  22. The Democratic National Convention is “diverse” because they fill their delegate slots using quotas. There may be fewer real party insiders than Hayes thinks.

I don’t know which I find more disturbing and revolting—this:

Grass-roots activist Jed Rathband of Portland, Maine, who runs an oil-buying cooperative, noted that Richardson “didn’t call Chavez a friend, which I find interesting. My view on Chavez is: as long as he’s willing to poke the Bush administration in the eye, he’ll be my friend. Because my enemy’s enemy is my friend.” Rathband said he’s trying to figure out how to buy oil from Venezuela for his customers.

    Or this:

Cox in the Washington Post: “He’s the left’s own Kurt Cobain and Che Guevara rolled into one, dripping sex appeal for progressives for whom debate has become synonymous with losing, who need a muscular liberal answer to the cowboy swagger adopted by the Bush Administration and its fans.”

Perhaps the first is disturbing and the second revolting.

Since the goal of Failurism is to always fall short of the goal then Failurism must be the most successful of all philosophies in achieving a goal, which would tend to discredit a philosophy based on failure due to it never failing?

  29. And one thing the Kos kids do not share with the party insiders is that the denigrated pols actually ran for office and won.  Imagine having to be accountable to the citizens and not just a comment thread.  The joy of not having to cater to the not liberal, the not poor and the not colored.

  31. The left are full of s**t, the truth is that deep down they dont want power, they live in a little bubble world of there own illusions and stupidities, the last thing they realy want is for reality to intrude, i mean look at the grotesque mental contortions they put themselves through to try and bludgeon every event into the leftist template, thats why failure is so attractive to them they can keep all there insane ideas pure and unchallenged, and embrace victimhood at the same time, failure is a win win situation for the left.
