Maybe this is due to the fact that Mohammed took a 12 year old bride or maybe it’s due to my limited time to search.  The facts of this case legally are that under the Act this man was treated illegally.  To be honest, although it is galling to accomodate a pedophile in any way, I am proud that we have a political system which recognises the rule of law.

  19. re #12, allan, true enough, but that doesn’t mean the creep should be compensated financially.  Some cons abuse the legal system by filing multiple frivilous complaints, in an attempt to overload the bureaucracy.  I see no need to reward them for it.

Not to mention the obvious discontinuity in claiming to be religious while serving time as a child molestor.  Unless, of course, he converted to Islam while in prison, whereupon I would be doubly suspicious of his motives.

  21. This is a result of state governments lending weight to the political views of aspiring judges and magistrates before appointing them.  I heard a few years ago of the appointment of eight magistrates in NSW, all of whom were Labor party members.  No one else got a look-in.  Stuff the benches with left wing lawyers, and unsurprisingly you will get some weird decisions.
It is ironic that Bob Carr, who presided over some of the most shameless bench stuffing, complained about ‘Santa Clause judges’.  What did he expect?
One can only hope that the High Court will reverse this decision, or at least the compensation part of it.  But it’s a long and costly process to achieve sanity.  In the meantime the culture of victimhood and complaint receives another boost, to the financial benefit of litigation lawyers, many of whom are presumably eying a seat on the bench.
    And so it goes on.

  22. I always thought that Mohammed’s child-bride was Ayisha, who was only 9 years old when he ‘married’ her.

Still, this reminds me of a story (pre-2001 of course) of a senior public servant who, despite the fact that he was not a Muslim, used to make sure he only ordered ‘Halal’ meals when flying Qantas.

Why?  He figured that Islamic terrorists that took over the flight would execute those who ordered ‘Kosher’ meals first, then normal meals and their co-religionists last of all.  He was a nice piece of work.

What a shame his deeply felt religious beliefs didn’t prevent him from touching up kids.

Quite the opposite: his deeply felt religious beliefs likely justified it.

There has been fatwa after fatwa from the ::ahem:: more conservative imams instructing the faithful on which sexual practices with young children were permissible, so long as the child was not “permanently damaged”. The Ayatollah Khomenei’s were famous, err…, rather, infamous. Especially since he was known to have put them into practice.

  27. #22, the best reason for ordering halal or kosher meals on Qantas flights, is that you won’t get offloaded when they oversell seats during the holiday season. It throws their system into confusion if you do, because they won’t have your special diet available on another flight. Always works for me! The food’s better, too.

  29. Most people dont realise what is involved in setting up a halal kitchen. There is the annual inspection of facilities, the same cooking equipmen cant be used for halal and non-halal foods. Storage areas such as cool rooms, freezers and preperation surfaces cant be used for both.
This then leads to complaints of “dirty” non muslim workers violating “clean” muslim cooking areas. The eventual upshot usualy leads to ALL meals being made halal regaurdless of the % of muslim prisoners as the duplication of facilities and running is such a pain in the ass.
It happened at ALL the detention centres (bar Perth for some reason) despite having at times, up to 40% non muslim detainees.

I will make a bet now that if corrections dont appeal this their kitchens will all be halal only within a year.

  43. Regarding airline food & ordering halal: be damned if I’d eat anything that some heathen has jabbered some spell over. And, if I was ever incarcerated in an Australian prison, I have the very same right - if this is the path they want to travel - to refuse any food whatsoever that is halal. They can give me a kitchen with a special key lock on it or I’ll damn well starve.

And as far as child molesters go, I’m nearly 100% sure that with the ROPers, there is absolutely NO age limit & the only ‘limit’ placed upon it is that the individual makes a determination whether the child is capable of being penetrated, or if not, then they may still ‘thigh’ them. If something aint specifically prohibited in the koran, it’s apparently ok & crazy Mo set the lead. It is sickening & as far as I’m concerned the whole damnable doctrine should be outlawed for this & a multitude of other immoral, law breaking islamic ‘standards’ that they freely promulgate when they are clearly illegal & serve at best as an incitement to break the law.

I’ve an idea to sort out this issue- feed the bastards nothing but baked beans (helal of course) and lock them in sealed cells all day- the gas chamber at San Quentin might be out of fashion, but if someone is overcome by their own guffs it surely counts as suicide.

  54. 12 In Iran, the minimum legal age of marriage for women is 9.

<<<Any campaign to reduce the practice of early marriage in traditional Muslim societies may face particular criticisms and challenges from the conservative religious perspective. The usual arguments used include:
    - It is against the authentic hadith as it was reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim that the Prophet Muhammad was married Aishah when she was six years old and consummated the marriage when she reached puberty at the age of nine. Muslims must therefore follow the Sunnah of the Prophet saw and any effort to outlaw early marriage can be considered unIslamic.
    - Sex outside of marriage is forbidden in Islam. Since humans develop sexual urges at puberty, early marriage is the Islamic solution to deal with natural sexual desire. Marriage should be allowed when a girl reaches puberty because “Puberty=Maturity=Marriage”.>>>
