LOE SALES

Antony Loewenstein has recently been silenced by The Australian (several times), ABC radio, ABC television, Gleebooks, the Sydney Morning Herald, Sky News, the Age, Dymocks Books, and Triple J. Latest to silence him is SBS:

THEY TRIED TO SILENCE ME SAYS AUTHOR

Here’s something Antony may wish to keep quiet: according to Nielsen’s Bookscan, only 318 copies of My Israel Question were sold in its first week. Loewenstein’s supporters blame a Jewish conspiracy.

UPDATE. Loewenstein is now silencing leftists.

  1. Ant’s looking like as canny an investment as Webdiary; oops, it’s Melbourne University Press- they’d be outraged to publish anything that actually sold, let alone made money.

I’d hold off putting a deposit on that finger wharf studio and the Beemer for a bit, Ants.

  4. Well, I’m only 1/2 Jewish so I guess I’ll have to not purchase the book twice to keep up my end.  Or, I suppose I could go to two book stores and insist they not carry it lest they incur my 50%-as-effective wet lettuce leaf style oppression!

  5. 318 would about cover the readers of his loopy conspiracy theory blog, close family members, League of Rights members and the total population of persons of Middle Eastern appearance who can actually read, so I’d say the remainer bins are going to be pretty well stocked with Antsy’s tortured prose for some time.

Perhaps some of his green/left admirers can come up with a useful purpose for the unsold stock, like an artificial reef somewhere, or as biodegradable landfill, or perhaps with the addition of a couple of loops of rough hemp twine, a snappy pair of sandals and a statement as well- just the thing for those anti-globalisation/evil murdering Jews/IR legislation/free the refugees demos.

  17. MUP does seem to be getting publicity of the all-publicity-is-good-publicity type with another current title, as well.

Australia’s poetry world is at war, and the vitriol is flying. A “kiss and tell” memoir by an internationally renowned poet, John Kinsella, has enraged two of his peers, who he claims were his partners in crime during a debauched youth.

Robert Adamson and Anthony Lawrence, both highly respected, award-winning poets, were horrified to read Kinsella’s lurid accounts of communal drug-taking sessions and pornography-watching. They have accused him of betraying their friendship, and of fabricating some of his stories.

The pair counter-attacked in the way they knew best: with words. They fired off a stream of florid e-mails, brimming with metaphors and allusions to blood and gore…

Last weekend [Kinsella] failed to appear at one of Australia’s main literary festivals, in Byron Bay, northern New South Wales.

He’s applied for AVOs against the poets (an account which also mentions “grants squandered on prostitutes”, a phrase some might find less meaningful than “grants squandered on poets”), but we all know it’s a cover: it’s Bob Ellis he’s really frightened of.

    His publisher’s comments are well-rehearsed:

Louise Adler, chief executive of Melbourne University Publishing, defended Kinsella’s book as a true version of events. “We stand by our author 100 per cent,” she said.

  25. I came across this ANTI anti-semitic joke recently which makes a good statement about hypocrisy in the media.

A man in Paris saw a pit bull dog attacking a toddler. He sustained some injuries, but managed to kill the pit bull with his bare hands and saved the child’s life. Reporters swarmed over the fellow to cover the story….

“Tell us! What’s your name? All Paris will love you! Tomorrow’s headline will be: ‘Parisian Hero Saves Girl from Vicious Dog!!!’”

The man said, “But I’m not from Paris. “Reporters: “That’s OK.  Then the whole of France will love you, and tomorrow’s headline will read: ‘French Hero Saves Girl from Vicious Dog!!’”

The man said, “I’m not from France, either.” Reporters: “That’s OK also. All Europe will love you. Tomorrow’s headline will shout: ‘EU Hero Saves Girl from Vicious Dog!’”

The man said, “But I’m not from Europe, either.” Reporters: “So, where ARE you from?”
    “I’m from Israel.”

    [Pause]

“Ah, well -  that makes tomorrow’s headline ‘Vicious Jew Kills Family Pet.’”

  28. 1,000 sales is about average for a narrowly focussed academic book in Australia, with most going to university libraries and specialists in the field. A best seller in academia would be around the 15,000 mark. Given that most academics don’t get a single review in the mainstream press (and are only reviewed in specialist journals), the fact that Ant can only sell 318 after what for academics would amount to carpet bombing publicity speaks volumes for the guy and his ideas.

I read somewhere that Lamont’s polling popularity peaked two weeks ago. Many of Lieberman’s Democratic supporters will still vote for him. Many moderate Republicans will tactically vote for him. Lieberman stands a real chance of winning as an indy. It will be that much sweeter if Lieberman loses in the primaries, but bests Lamont in the vote that really counts.

These are the rules for commenting on Loewenstein’s blog:

    1. You must hate Israel, even better hate all Jews except Chomsky, Loewenstein, Robert Manne and Finklestein

    2. You must advocate the defeat of American & allied soldiers in Iraq

    3. You must know little or no Middle Eastern history or geography unless it supports the Blog owner’s view

    4. You must defend terrorist organisations and portray them as victims

    5. You must believe that western democrary is evil

    6. Your grasp of the English language must be minimal

    7. You must be prepared to swear and namecall when you don’t know the answer

    8. You must have a dog named after any of the Jewish heroes (including myself) in Point 1.
