SONG DATA REQUESTED
Music-memed by Rob Hinkley. Must post answers, no matter how tragic, otherwise famine for 12,500 years:
1. Total volume of music files on my computer: 0.
2. Last CD I bought: Scissor Sisters
3. Song Playing Right Now: nothing
4. Five Songs (or Albums) I listen to a lot or that move me:
* Greatest Hits Vol. I - Hank Williams Jr
* Will the Wolf Survive? - Los Lobos
* The Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook - Glenn Tilbrook
* Greatest Live Show on Earth - Jerry Lee Lewis
* Good Old Boys - Randy Newman
(That list changes frequently. Next week, depending on serotonin levels, it might be all Gregorian chants, sitcom themes, and Bjork.)
5. Tag three others:
1. Rajan Rishyakaran
2. Florida Cracker
3. Mahmood
If you’re a fan of Hank Jr, you oughta like Mark Chesnutt’s latest, Savin the Honky Tonk. Takes a U-turn from pop, with The Lord Loves a Drinkin Man, You Can’t Do Me This Way, and Beer Bait and Ammo. But evythang’s good.
And if you’re rocking out to vintage Bocephus, you might want revisit Waylon Jennings, as outlaw as Hank Jr ever was.
As a sometime music critic, I own a promo copy of The Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook. Never listened to it once. I always had a line drawn under his career after the last good Squeeze album, the Elvis Costello-produced East Side Story from 1981. I can’t fault your other choices (props for Good Old Boys in particular) so maybe I’ll dig it out and give it a spin.
