STATES RATED
Al Gore’s home state ranks way down at 43rd for greenishness (Texas - once described by Gore as the “No. 1 most polluted state in America” - beats Tennessee by nine places). Click for the complete list; bike-path republic Vermont wins.
UPDATE. West Virginia triumphs again!
Ohio is only 39. Not 50? I must start the rubber tire bonfires, pronto. Just in time for Halloween.

The problem appears to be that states that surround Ohio—Kentucky (#45), Indiana (#49), and West Virginia (#50)—are somehow receiving some of our BBQ and SUV pollution. I suspect shenanigans by rightwing conspirators in those states.
I’m going to build a rabbit hatch in the back yard to prove it. You can expect to see the results of my experiment in Loose Change III.

So I don’t have to actually watch it, would you mind just giving me the summary of your experiment results?
The Dark Lord has banned me from watching highly inaccurate documentaries because of it’s affect on my delicate constitution.
We’d be a lot greener here in Tennessee if it weren’t for this drought.
Posted by Some0Seppo on 2007 10 22 at 09:29 AM • permalinkWashington is #3, God knows why. The I5 corridor is having pollution problems, such that the state started testing vehicle emissions a few years back. But only for west side residents; us east siders are not s obligated.
And then there are all those dams on the rivers. The west siders want them down, in order to save the salmon (and destroy the power production, transportation, and agriculture industries, but, hey, it only affects people).
So I’m suspicious as well. Especially since Oregon is #2…..and Idaho is #12.

Once I set up my Pernicious Atmospheric Clean-air Obliterators (fueled by recycled Ted Kennedy speeches), Virginia will take the lead in greenhouse gasses, thereby creating an enormous demand for my Passive Ambient Cleansing Orbs .
Paco Environmental Products: Creating Demand Out of Thin Air
Seriously, though, one would think that Idaho should rank higher; it has a low population, and much of the lands are national forest or designated wilderness, and what lands aren’t are often restricted in development and/or use (agriculture and logging) by multiple environmental agencies (National Marines Fisheries Service) and watch dog groups. Also, industry is limited to a few specific ares.
Indeed, that silly Forbes survey says:
Idaho has the lowest carbon footprint per capita in the land, and it scores high marks for air quality and the per capita number of hybrid-electric and alternative fuel vehicles registered in the state. It falters a bit in energy efficiency policy though. In addition, the state is not part of the Western governors’ initiative to establish a market-based system to limit greenhouse gas emissions.
So Idaho fails because their policies doesn’t match greenie standards, although physically, the state should be higher. Unlike Washington, who happens to have many programs practically forcing greenie energy policies down our throats.
That sounds like an arbitrary and highly subjective judgment to me. Of course, no one would do that, huh? *snort*
Posted by The_Real_JeffS on 2007 10 22 at 09:38 AM • permalinkShut up Al! Of course Texas would have more pollution. It’s the friggin size of 5 smaller states. You could probably stuff 12 Tennessees in there or 26 Ohios. Let’s talk pollution by square mile. Texas is probably right up there with Idaho. And if all of the damn yankee squatters and illegal aliens would take their brood and go home, we’d be giving Alaska a run for its money.
O/T tomorrows newspoll- 58/42 to Labor- does anyone really believe this?

Makes me want to go out and burn some tires.
