SUCCESSFUL AUTHOR REQUIRES MONEY

Seems Antony Loewenstein has already spent all the profits from his spectacular book sales:

Independent journalism takes time and effort. It also requires money. Every now and then, I ask readers of this site and my work to consider whether they’d be able to contribute financially. Any donations would assist in the further running of my blog, book writing and freelance work.

Just click on the “Donate” box on the right hand side of this site.

Though he’d love you to believe otherwise, much of Antony’s “independent journalism” consists of mere book reviews. And they don’t require money; they make money, albeit not much. Sadly, Antony’s plea hasn’t provoked a windfall:

“i can only offer moral and contributory support, keep up the good work”

“A cheque’s in the mail.”

“I, er gave at the office. Catch ya next time.”

He’s being silenced again! Speaking of which, Dan Lewis lately conducted a little test at Antony’s site:

Like many people, I have had comments to Antony Loewenstein’s blog censored. My comments were civil but, as he disagreed with them, he did not ‘approve’ them for public view in his moderated comment system on his site. It is his blog, and that is of course his right. For someone who claims however, as Loewenstein does all too regularly, that his dissenting views are constantly stifled, it is downright hypocritical.

So I thought I’d try an experiment to see what gets through and what doesn’t ...

Read on in comments.

  1. (Continued from conclusion of post)

This was all brought on as a result of this post where Loewenstein reprinted my letter to letter to The Australian alongside numerous others.

In the closing of my letter, reprinted in full on Loewenstein’s site, I wrote: “I sent a message to his blog calling him on several inaccuracies, expecting an honest reply. Instead, he deleted the message.”

A comment by “Glen Condell” later on Loewenstein’s post said: “I wonder too whether the Australian would consider publishing poor Daniel Lewis’s entire screed so we can all see what we were missing.” (Highlighting my own).

I was annoyed by this, as it was Loewenstein who had censored comments by “poor” me, not The Australian, who printed them. In other words, I have had more success having my contributions published by Australia’s national broadsheet, than by a small-time blogger. Poor me indeed.

Accordingly, I responded to Condell as follows: “Perhaps you might direct your enquiry instead to Mr Loewenstein, who deleted my comments without a trace.”

Immediately upon submitting my entry, Loewenstein’s blog advised the “comment is awaiting moderation” which meant nobody else could see it.

At the time of writing this, a couple of days after submitting it, my comment is still invisible. In other words, my accusations of Loewenstein deleting critical messages seemed nicely proven and the arguments of the other letters to the editor vindicated.

So I posted a new comment—under a different name, Waled Siniel (an Arabic-sounding anagram of Daniel Lewis)—which reads as follows:

“A big problem in my experience is that so much criticism of Israel is automatically branded anti-semetic. No rational debate is permissible as long as this automatic trump card is applied yet underlying arguments are ignored. To be called an anti-semite is the ultimate
smear and it is unacceptable. Only when Jews accept that not all criticism of Israel is anti-semetic can a proper debate be held. Not accepting this truth casts doubt on the entire Zionist argument. You have clearly suffered this fate Antony.

“I really feel sorry for you as a result. Sorry that you have been bullied and sorry you’ve clearly been ostracised by those in your own community for your beliefs.

“Australia is a tolerant place as we all know, however a big part of this is tolerance of debate, even if you totally disagree with the argument.

“Crying ‘anti-Semite’ helps nobody. Usually, the response to an argument is a counter-argument. Not an automatic catcall. This is my first post to this blog, sorry if it’s a bit long :-)”

Surprise surprise, my anti-Israel message repeating the ludicrous (and misspelled) claim that all criticism of Israel is regarded as anti-Semitic, was approved. This approval took place less than a half-hour after it was posted. My earlier comment however was not so lucky and like every one of my other comments on his blog, remains hidden ... I was silenced by Loewenstein.

A part of ‘Waled’s’ comment rings very true: “Australia is a tolerant place as we all know, however a big part of this is tolerance of debate, even if you totally disagree with the argument.” Loewenstein on the other hand simply deletes arguments he disagrees with, or any criticism of his opinions.

Loewenstein wrote in Crikey: “I am proud to be Jewish and particularly proud of our ancient tradition of debate, dissent and inquiry.”

Sure you are Antony. Sure you are ...

    Kind regards,
    Daniel Lewis
    Best. Zionist. Ever.

  6. I like Dan Lewis’ comment.  It bears up with my experience with leftwing thinkers.  Indeed I can well remember attending a liberal arts college in the 1970’s where Marxist pacificist anti-American professors were the norm.  They regularly discussed how their views were being silenced.  But I quickly learned that, in actuality, they were simply not being listened to.  And that they were the ones who would silence viewpoints that differed from their own.

  7. Yeah, but what about “poor” old Antlow. He’s not asking for much… just a little recognition and some financial benevolence. And total control of his artistic freedom, of course.

I can spare a few of the bold tags I snatched up at Margo’s liquidation sale. And I’m sure some other readers have some tips and kindly words that might help the lad make ends meet. Why, if we all chipped in, we could even hire him a maid!

    Don’t worry, screenshots standing by.
Of course he could have avoided all of this by not censoring me in the first place and actually tackling the meat of my argument - or at the very least, not responded, yet left my questions there for others to consider. Instead, he creates the illusion that everybody agrees with him, and all the assorted Lefties, Nazis, crackpots, moonbats and other fans of his engage in a giant circle-jerk.

You’re right, he’ll probably delete Waled’s message and pretend it never happened. Then one day he can bitch about how “Zionists” rewrite history…. Bloody hypocrite.

  21. I had the misfortune to attend La Trobe Uni in the early 1990s and did a Sociology minor. I found it ironic that the professors in my course talked about freedom of speech and independent thought- but whenever anyone brought up a rational argument for globalization or capitalism- the profs instantly sneered at them and ridiculed them openly in front of the whole class. Everyone soon realized that the best thing to do was to either agree or transfer courses.

‘Are you people insane? Give me a break you pathetic little Ant-fucking worthless piece of shit. Do you really expect that anybody would take something as hideous and idiotic as you seriously? For even ten seconds?’

And so on for a few more paragraphs. Except it then got a little unpleasant.

  36. I used to comment on Loewenstein’s blog, too. I was accepted in the beginning and became a bit of a regular. Then Loewenstein announced he was cleaning up his blog and he banned me. I had always been polite and civil, but I disagreed with the mainstream view there. He banned everybody except a few ideological clones: addamo, smiths, leftvegdrunk and orang.

So, I got a bit shitty. I kept posting demanding to know why he was being a hypocrite and claiming to be publically silenced himself while simultaneously censoring his own blog.

He just deleted my comments. Such is the behaviour of the great defender of free expression.

I think you’ve solved Antony’s little problem. In a perfect world, his opinions would be broadcast throughout the city via loudspeakers mounted high on poles.

  40. After Loewenstein banned me for no reason and ignored my requests to explain why, I got a little shitty.

I went to his girlfriend’s blog and posted a childish but true comment.

Polly, why are with a loser like Antony Loewenstein. He is a bully, a hypocrite and he got himself fired from The Sydney Morning Herald for being unprofessional and dishonest. He almost got the paper sued because of his actions.

When his world comes crashing down because he is a fraud what are you gonna do then?

Being a well-reasoned girl, polywise (Liz Wise) responded thus:

Speaking of unloved; I want to say thanks again to [Daphne] – the continued hilarious, psychotic ramblings of a nutter with an imaginary axe to grind remain the source of much entertainment for me, the Dreamboat, our families, friends and associates.

Jibes aside, one really can’t help but be a little concerned – it must take an inordinate amount of time, energy, and commitment to maintain the rage. And things are obviously getting desperate if she’s reduced to commenting on a blog that’s been on hiatus since February.

One can only wonder how an already stretched mental health system will be able to accommodate her when the Dreamboat’s book is published and she goes into teeth-gnashing, frothing at the mouth, speaking in tongues mental meltdown.

Here’s hoping that she has the strength and support of her family and friends to get the help she so desperately and clearly needs.

Hmm, I wonder who the real “nutter” is here. And I guess the Ant has found his perfect match.
