TURKEY FIXINGS

Blogger Patrick Frey extracts a fake turkey correction from the Los Angeles Times:

Joel Stein Stein’s Dec. 5 column said a photo showed President Bush holding a fake Thanksgiving turkey during his 2003 visit to U.S. troops in Iraq. The turkey he was holding was real. Also, the name of Nicole Richie, co-star of “The Simple Life,” was misspelled as Ritchie.

This is the second fake turkey correction published in the past year. The mainstream media’s concern for accuracy is stunning.

  1. Nicole Richie however, has been confirmed as having the IQ of a plastic turkey.

  2. Still awaiting the Alan Ramsey/SMH retraction…

  3. The whole thing is an allusion to Caesar and the Gallinacious Wars.  The press can’t stand it.

  4. I hope that the timblair.spleenville site will be maintained in order to preserve, among other things, its treasure trove of fake-turkeyana.

  5. Look towards the bottom of the menu for “Previous Tim.” (And yes, I know the gray stops before the menu content does. I am still trying to figure that one out.)

  6. I mean the menu on the main page. I haven’t decided whether it’s worth it to make all the individual entry and comment pages look exactly like the main page so I didn’t put any of the links to other blogs on those pages.

  7. What the correction doesn’t state, of course, is that the whole bleeding “point” of the “column” was that the “turkey” was “fake,” and what that “revealed” about “Bush’s” evil “grip” on “America.”

Of course, the main point stands, right, “Joel”? Ass.

Wow, cool, NO machine will ever go through THAT account creation procedure. None.

  8. True turkeys are making fake turkey corrections?  Don’t they know their own, or are true turkeys also fake turkeys?

  9. Is that a true fake turkey or a fake true turkey?

  10. Bow to Stein’s proffesionalism.

Clearly Bush had NASA devolope that “turkey”, as a media ploy, to help him achieve domination over the world.

When do I get reduced rate green-fees in Kabul?

    No more turkeys!

    TURKEY…Turkey…turkey…mmm…t…

  11. OT - On yesterday’s Today Show (?) on Channel 9 with Steve Liebemann and Tracey Grimshaw there was a segment on Life after Death with author Mike Agostini talking about communication with the dead. Giving examples, Agostini said that Dan Rather had seen the ghost of a prominent CBS reporter from yesteryear late at night roaming the CBS offices.

Now I wonder whether Dear Dan has been channeling the dead for his “evidence” against Dubya. He was so convinced that the late Col Killian was very critical of Dubya during his service.

Where would we be without Leftist conspiracy theories?

    Your link XML : http://timblair.net/index.xml
is bad. I can’t feed it in my aggregator

  15. The aggregator seems to be having some sort of trouble with certain entities in Tim’s post like the em-dash after “Joel Stein” and apostrophes and so on. Therefore your aggregator should be taken out and shot.

Oh okay, maybe I’ll try to figure out how to set up a more compliant xml thing. Maybe some people here who know about this matter can offer a suggestion. To tell you the truth, I know very little about xml and rss, and the subject has always bored me. People use it to check if a website has been updated, no? I think you can be pretty sure that Tim will have at least one new post a day. Simply make checking the site part of your daily regimen!

  17. Why is everyone here making fun of a serious apology that came as a result of more than a year of painstaking research?

  18. Thanks Andrea for response , I visit the site everyday if I can. But when I have not time , I use aggregator to take a global look of all interresting blogs , and choose some to read.
BTW, my aggregator is RssReader , a free one, and Firefox accept your XML feed.

  19. Let me see if I can guess: The original plastic turkey “news item” screamed on page 1 of the Times, above the fold. The retraction appeared weeks later, on page A-33, buried below the fold among the want-ads.
