<< QUOTE O' THE WEEK ~ MAIN ~ BIGELMAN REPORT IN >>

UNBRUISED AND HOWLING

This week’s column, and a better column on a similar theme (leftoids screaming oppression) from Michael Duffy. Recent wailing from the likes of Clive Hamilton, Robert Manne, and Peter Gebhardt on their imagined silencing is too much even for Traceeee Hutchison, who bemoans the mental state of her friend, the Left:

This week something terrible seems to have happened and it’s tipped her over the edge. She needs help. Immediately ...

It’s like she’s gone mad. Just raving like a lunatic about taking massive body blows but there’s not a single sign of bruising on her. Nothing.

  1. If you aren’t reading this comment, it’s been removed by the oppressors.

  2. I’m beginning to wonder whether the Mannes, Hamiltons and Gebhardts of this world are really all that interested in politics per se. What drives them seems to be a Walter Mitty-ish desire to be fearless fighters against oppression rather than dull middle-aged men whose best days are behind them. Why be a dull professor or journalist when you can be the Mandela of Melbourne?

  3. Who would have thought that there was someone who could make Catherine Deveny sound like the voice of Reason?  Traceeee manages it.

  4. What kind of Irony Free Universe does one have to inhabit to publish a polemic about government oppression in a daily that the government allows to be sold at any news stand? Sheer dumbassery.

I used to think the following was paranoid and cynical, now I wonder if it was cynical enough:
These people are carrying water for their Socialist overlords so that the signal to noise ratio on important issues like this will be too low when the takeover comes.

    Bienvenios a Venezuela, comerade.

  5. Traceee’s column is amusing because she hasn’t given it any context. She assumes that her readership knows her political leanings and what has made her come to the conclusion that the left is “like a lunatic”. However, I think she is about to discover that Age readers are more like lunatics that like to dish out the body blows - London to a brick-on that she gets a swag of hate mail. Tray struggles with plain language, and certainly can’t manage humour, or even their in-bred relatives, irony or sarcasm. Thinking day is going to be hell.

On the other hand, not many of the Timster’s readers will have misunderstood his intentions.

BTW seriously - a gem of a little article in the DT the other day about the local Asian cafe closing down.

  6. Tim could have linked to the almost-as-wacky piece on the same page, by the absurdly-named Nina Philadelphoff-Puren.  Ms P-P lectures in English, Communications and performance studies, and her piece compares Mamdouh Habib to… Primo Levi.

  8. If the Coalition parties were really smart, most of their advertising for the upcoming election would consist of TV spots with Robert Manne, Clive Hamilton and David Marr urging people to vote for Labor.

  9. More on Dr Philadelphoff-Puren here.

She’s a feminist with an interest in the middle east, so you might have thought that the visit by Dr Ayaan Hirsi Ali would have attracted her attention this week. But don’t strain your eyes unnecessarily looking for references to girl cutting or honour killings in any of her publication titles.

    Pure gold.

#10. Amazing as it may seem… I think she’s mounting the same argument as Duffy and Tim. Of course, in her case it’s an “after the horse as bolted” call for her Leftie Commentariat buddies to make sure they wear trousers before ranting in public.

Suspect it’s largely crud to fill the column inches cos she missed her ‘thinking day’, yet again.

  15. She’d be out every night at A-list events talking about social justice issues, gender equality, a fair go for workers and saying “Sorry”.

Traceeeeeeee left out head tilting.  That’s very important to do when saying “Sorry”, else you might be seen as insincere.

  16. A’d like to see her invite a few of the ‘stolen generation’ to the A-list events to personally say ‘Sorry’, would be very entertaining indeed ...

  20. #9 And thank you for that link to the rather winsome photo of Dr PeePee.  Judging from the position of her shoulders, I would say she is actually taking that photo herself.  Ah, the loneliness of the post-feminist screecher.  For all her supposed expertise in ‘testimony’, she unhesitatingly swallows Habib’s patently phony story about being told to ‘keep quiet’ by the men who (supposedly) mugged him.  Honestly: if Mamdouh said he’d been abducted by aliens, she’d believe it.

  29. I assume “Left” is an allegorical construct symbolising “THE Left”. But I’m struggling with the rest of the piece. Who is the boyfriend? The media perhaps - formally loyal to “Left”, but occasionally shilling for the right by making the odd agreable noise about the importance of the coal industry to AUstralia, and of nuclear power to carbon emmission reduction?

Ernie Dingo in Bush Mechanics meet Tracee Hutchison:

Tracee: Hello, are you from the ‘stolen generation’?
Ernie: We was told this is the place for the stolen generator ... ours is missin’. They said there was some ’ dim bulbs’ ‘ere too ... it was off a 6-volt ‘55 ‘olden ...
Tracee: I think you’ve come to the wrong place ...
Ernie: Too right! You look like the type who drives 50 miles with the handbrake on.
Tracee: How did you know? My, you have such large, strong hands ...
Ernie: Yair, that’s from hand crankin’ the ‘54 Morris: starter’s on the blink ...
Tracee: Could I see your crank handle?
Ernie: Sure. It’s got a bit of a kink in it, but it still does the job.
Tracee: I should hope so ...

  38. Andrew Bolt’s column, published a day before Traceee, also started with a visit to the doctor. That’s part of the left’s problem, not an original thought among them.

Traceeee sees the left as compassionate and caring and cites the left’s efforts to free a would-be terrorist, David Hicks. One man and not a very nice one at that.

How about a tear for the victims of the left. The millions dying of malaria because the left won’t allow DDT to be used to eradicate mosquitoes. The hordes in Africa starving because the left denies them GM crops that will survive their harsh environment. How about some compassion for the millions who have died at the hands of past heroes of the left - Pol Pot, Mao, Mugabe, Stalin, Saddam.

But that’s the left. The compassion for a few pathetic arseholes such as Hicks, cruelty, or at least indifference, to the suffering of the masses.

    Get fucked, Tracceeeeeee Hutchison.

  39. Now I understand why the Left is so intent on re-writing history to invent new “victims” - because so many of the downtroden (e.g. the working class) are, well, doing OK - thanks in large part to capitalism!

  41. As they contemplate the possibility of another Howard election victory, I diagnose Manne, Hamilton, Gebhardt et al. as suffering from delayed onset PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder).
They have never come to terms with the monetary reforms of the Hawke/Keating Government of the 80s, the fall of Communism etc, let alone the Howard Government reforms.
    Compensation is indicated.
