UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN IN THRIVING BUSH ECONOMY

Leftoid US group blog Firedoglake hires a press secretary:

I’m excited to announce that Siun is going to join the FDL team as our new Press Secretary. Many will know her as a valued member of the FDL community and also for her work handling press for Yearly Kos. She’s also a good friend and I’m really looking forward to having her on board, so please put your hands together and welcome her in the comments.

It’s kind of difficult to type a welcoming note when your hands are together. Perhaps Secretary Siun—who appears to be wearing a prison uniform—could alert her masters to this.

(Via Daniel Glover and Instapundit, who seem unimpressed by Firedoglake’s innovative hire. The concept of staffed blogs is nothing new; Treacher has Puce, and I’ve still got Tran and Mbongo, I think, somewhere. And don’t forget Webdiary, with its society-altering team of transition managers, comments managers, official historians, archivists ...)

  1. Not surprising that a Hollywood blogger would be the first to say “My people will blog your people.”

  2. firedoglake still believes that Rove will be frogmarched out of the White House because of Plamekerfuffle.

So, that’s pretty much the level of her association with reality, right there.

I think you forgot their bold-formatting use editors and italicists.

  6. I looked in vain for a first or a last name for the lady; does she go only by ``Siun’‘?

  7. From what little I’ve read of Firedoglake in the past, they seem to take themselves and their “mission” way too seriously, much like one of our favorites…hiring a press secretary is just the next step in FDL’s Webdiarization.

  8. #6:

Check out the link to Daniel Glover’s entry.

Anyway, Glover makes a good point…some revolutionaries these people are, falling all over themselves to emulate those they’re seeking to replace. Well, silly people need hobbies, too, I guess.

  9. Perhaps Secretary Siun—who appears to be wearing a prison uniform

Have y’all checked out the link and seen the photo? I’ll tell you what scares me. In a sympathetic piece, a publication is going to run the most flattering photograph it can take. Jowl-ey and sneering is the best they could get? Bearing this in mind, I’d hate to see a shot of Siun on an ordinary day - let alone the morning after a vat or two of organic, preservative-free, sulfur dioxide-reduced Chardonnay. Oh, brother.

  10. Crap. That was me. I even used the pushbutton formatting - must have inadvertently deleted a bracket somewhere there. Sorry, Andrea…*flinches*

One of whom told them to go fuck themselves as he was jumping ship.  Will Siun reach a similar epiphany?  Stay tuned.

See there.  If Secretary Siun were here instead of there, this wouldn’t have happened.  Ok, maybe it would have.  But at least she could address the mobs of reporters who are clamoring to get a statement from this blog on the spilt italics.  I mean, you just have to have a Press Secretary.

  14. Why is my comment italicized? There. Did that fix it?

    Posted by ErnieG on 2006 09 03 at 03:14 PM • permalink

  15. I fixed the italics. Also your quote was on the same paragraph with the rest of your sentence, so it went to small font, so I fixed that too. This is a template glitch. To prevent this happening, put the quote on its own paragraph (hit the enter key twice after the end quote tag to make a paragraph break).

  17. Firedoglake? Firedoglake??

Never heard of them, or visited their site ... until now. Obviously not that cutting edge.

Now, real Candians visiting this site will probably already have avoided the “cutting-edge” leftoid Canadian site:
    RABBLE.CA

It has all the usual suspects but may provide some amusement to those of Antipodean origin, unfamiliar with our own masterbatery left. (I was going to say “self-masterbatery left” but realized that it was redundant).

  18. Huh.  I thought firdoglake was some hollywoodish chicklette.  Seems it’s a group.

Well, gee, at least I didn’t learn this from the New York Times!

  20. If she does well as press secretary, maybe she’ll promoted to secretary of the Firedoglake department for the promotion of virtue and the prevention of vice.

  21. ...who seem unimpressed by Firedoglake’s innovative hire…

And what I’ve read of and at Jane Hamsher and her collective blog, there’s very little to be impressed by, period.

Hmmmmm…..it’s possible that Jane is an up-and-coming Margo.  Time to start hoarding bolds and italics, people!!!

  22. A press secretary? One of the things that’s always surprised me about the Left is its ability to out-right the Right when it comes to things like this.

  24. Partly off-topic, but did we ever get any results from any of those “people’s inquiry” investigations at Webdiary - with their multi-person staffs?

    Just one such inquiry required:

A judge or lawyer to head the thing up
    Witness interviewers
    Hotline staffers and lead follow-upers
    Database compilers
    More lawyers
    Website builders, designers and maintainers
A management team (loved Tim’s reply, “Anybody got any experience herding cats?”)

Apparently, they also needed some Dogalog translators, too.

Anyway, I guess that’s what happens when a blog gets ahead of itself.  The disconnect from the real world, and lack of understanding of the practicalities of running a blog, in Margo’s case, was truly stunning.  We’ll see where firedoglake goes.

I just choked on my Pepsi, thankyouverymuch.  Oh yes, I do seem to recall that.  Much concerted action was planned.  I would imagine John Howard was more than a little concerned over it.

  28. #27.  Hell, I’d look unhappy too if the only job I could get (with US unemployment at 4.7%!!) was flogging failed leftoid talking points to the press.  For all their “living wage” rhetoric, these jokers don’t even pay Federal minimum wage.

  29. #26, that look is a very close cousin of the compassionate head tilt and the (weak) power fist of solidarity.  It fits right in among the denizens of those places.
