WEREWOLVES OF CALGARY

Dylan at Still Angry discovers some intriguing results using Google’s new trend scoper, which tracks search terms by city and region (Australia is represented, er, prominently). Following are further search terms, and the locations most eagerly seeking them:

Divorce lawyer: Houston, Texas

Global warming: Brisbane, Australia

Sores: Chicago, Illinois

Free food: Brisbane, Australia

Government grant: Edmonton, Canada

Mutant: Seattle, Washington

Werewolves: Calgary, Canada

Psychosis: St Albans, England

Mental illness: St Albans, England

Hmm. Seems to be something happening in St Albans, England.

Opiates: St Albans, England

That might explain things.

Bush monkey: Portland, Oregon

Zombies: Los Angeles, California

Tim Blair: Canberra, Australia

Uh-oh.

  1. Canberra? Lol. Either:

    a) A bored civil servant
    b) A chance now to shape future Government Policy, or, get that arts grant you’ve always wanted.
    b) You’re in big trouble.

  2. Relax Tim, you weren’t as popular a search in the other capital cities, but Canberra was the only one not listed for searching psychosis and mental illness - that’s a good thing isn’t it?

I clicked on ``Sores’’ and found Chicago actually sixth on the list - Boston came first. Given its longstanding Kennedy infestation, I’m not surprised.

(Oh - spyder - Andrea lives in Florida, and the time stamp reflects her local time, not Tim’s.  I know it’s confusing.)

  32. Oh goody, a brand new distraction from productive pursuits.

Interesting, Tampa Floridians are into S&M (note the January 2004 spike), anal sex and
drug rehab big time. And it seems the US is the only place where rehab is a religion. Figures.

But Houstonians out rank the Tampa folks when you state it a bit more crudely and neither place even ranks when it comes to gay pride. Could explain the need for all the divorce lawyers though (and I see we’re the champs at that one, too—nice).
