WORLD OBSERVED, EXPLORED, ETC

Labor candidate Mia Handshin explains herself:

Some time ago on the vast island of Australia Mia Handshin was born. She looked at the world as she grew, she observed, explored, participated, engaged, debated, wrote, heard, felt, developed, advocated, articulated, absorbed and came to some conclusions about what she could do to be creative in her own unique way.

From a young age she felt a commitment, an inner impetus and inspiration to live her life to its utmost potential, seeking to share her particular passion and vision for the world and “humanaty”, TO BE THE VOICE SHE WANTS TO HEAR IN THE WORLD.

Mia wants to hear her own voice IN THE WORLD. That explains the all the SHOUTING.

(Via Andrew Bolt, now returned to his work hut after recent journeys among the foreign.)

  1. H.L. Mencken once wrote about politicians at conventions “comparing themselves favorably to the rising of the sun and the aurora borealis.” Sounds like Ms. Handshin has gone ‘em one better.

So, she wants to be “THE VOICE SHE WANTS TO HEAR IN THE WORLD”, eh? You know, they have “special rooms” where you can listen to nothing but your own voice all day long - except for occasional visits by the doctor for the purpose of checking the fasteners on the back of your “jacket”; he (or she, as the case may be) will probably utter a kind word or two, while checking your chart. And the orderlies who cut up your food for you, they may croon at you just a little (“Over the teeth and through the gums, look out stomach, here it comes!”). But aside from that, you can listen to the music of your own voice to your heart’s content.

One of Krudd’s hand-picked ‘celebrity’ candidates was in Queanbeyan yesterday, saying he had a lengthy association with the region and he was proud to represent the people of Eden-Monaro.  Only problem was that he kept pronouncing it “Mon-ah-ro” (like the Holden car) rather than “Mon-air-ro”.  Even the ABC Canberra news pointed out his continual mis-pronounciation of the area wouldn’t go down well with the locals.

  29. Slightly O/T, but did anyone happen to catch the shameless bit of shilling for ABC employee Leigh Sale’s turgid tome on poor ol’ Mo’ Daewoo on last night’s Lateline?

Intro’d by well known RWDB Ray Martin, Sale proceded to make many snide remarks about the Federal Government and the Attorney General, while blatantly plugging her own commercial product on a public-funded broadcaster; I know the ABC has long been a private soapbox for a small, self-appointed elite of ratchet-jawed leftist bucketheads, but the ABC “charter” specifically proscribes the use of air-time to flog commercial products, especially those private enterprises of stridently public employees.

Anyone who’d care to waste their time by exressing outrage at this gross mis-use of an already hijacked public resource can have a bitch here- I’ve already raised the matter there, with the relevant minister and Media Watch, and I expect a rapid, vicious and vindictive response. I also expect to pick all seven numbers on lotto this evening.

When they finally reply, no doubt it’ll be along the lines that “seeing as less people actually give a fuck about that toxic, traitorous talitubby turd now he’s coughed, the sales of this load of bollocks will be lucky to recoup the cost of the initial print run, so it’s hardly promotion of a commercially viable product.”

  30. Here’s what I sent off:-

Lateline last night had a five minute plug for a book on David Hicks, authored by ABC employee Leigh Sales. I thought such promotions were a breach of the ABC charter and the Workplace Values and Code of Conduct (I think- it’s been so well buried that it is totally inacessable anywhere on the website). I realise the ABC has very much become a personal soapbox for it’s perpetual undergraduate employees, but if advertorials for their own commercial enterprises are OK, why not for any product, thus lifting the usury of public funding from taxpayers, who largely ignore the network?

  54. What these clowns have managed in 72 hours in astonishing. Garnaut has now said Stern wasn’t right about everything and has criticised Labor’s unwillingness to come up with a 2020 “target” before a 2050 “target”. Gillard has said unions may participate in the IR debate (and fund Labor’s campaign with millions of dollars) but that businesses should not do so for the other side, lest they get injured. Rudd has said union membership is irrelevant at the ALP National Conference, is hand-picking politically illiterate blondes and religious mystics (stomping on local branches) and wants foreigners to buy more of our uranium but says we can’t use that uranium ourselves. His IR model goes beyond WorkChoices and even beyond Keating’s reforms. He’s also pressing ahead with the ‘Howard lied’ line on WMD - despite being more unequivocal about their existence in 2002-03 than Howard was. Having decreed that people on $250,000 per annum are now “battlers” in order to ensure his green home renovations bribe of $300,000,000 can be spread around, he has the gall to say the government shouldn’t spend big in the budget.

These people are completely and utterly unfit for government. In fact, they’re unfit for local government.

  81. Over these next few months, Tintin and Milhouse will have their work cut out trying to shield their clumsy, new deputy from the media.

  82. Delightful as the fair one is to gaze upon, she sounds like a pretty dynamic lady.  I reckon the chorus of less-than-gentlemanly forms of approval does not do us much credit.

Yep. She does sound like a dynamic lady. She’s a go-getter, and she belongs in the corporate world of the Sydney CBD, where I have no doubt she will excel. However, she is excrutiatingly naive, and her website mana of speakingis- to put it blunty, a lot of mystical, new age nonsense. This leads to the impression that she doesn’t have a grounded, well-informed, realistic world-view, something that is critical in politics.
In fact, I’m concerned for her that she’s just a pawn in the political game, and she’s going to be burned.
Check out her website. Sure, she’s an idealist. Sure, she’s a go-getter.
    she’s not politician material.
Furthermore, the fact that she is so easy to make fun of makes her a liability from the get-go.
Why was she recruited? I want to believe that the Labor party are not so cynical, shallow, and utterly devoid of principles that they are hiring idealistic young bombshells for their looks.
But- as amazing as this is to me- that’s actually what this looks like. Tell me I’m wrong, I want to believe I’m wrong. I want to believe that these girls are not just being used as lambs to the slaughter.
